Hey everyone,

I have a semi obnoxious squeal coming from the front pass. side caliper. This is a Baer 13" Track system. Squeal disappears when the brakes are applied. I pulled the caliper and the pads show a significant wear pattern on the front of the saddle bracket. I got curious, put it back together, spun the rotor and could actually see the pads moving side to side in the saddle! I measured the runout with a dial indicator on the inside circumference of the braking surface--0.013"!
These brakes have like 400 miles on them and no track use...could the rotors have come warped out of the box?

The rotor could very well have been warped out of the box.

Did you follow Baer's rotor bedding-in procedure? The iron they use for the rotors isn't as forgiving as OEM stuff, and as such is very sensitive to having a proper gradual heating for stress relief. If you went and beat on the brakes just after installing them (even just a fast stop or two from 60mph), you will warp the rotors!

I'd call Baer and see what they have to say. I have a feeling you got a bum rotor.

I tend to agree with Troy. I followed the break-in directions to the letter on my Baer brakes and they really work great.

Welcome to the world of 13" C4 brakes. If you had the ford bolt pattern I would tell you to upgrade to the '99+ Cobra Brembo design rotors. Less prone to cracking/warping.

Make sure the idiot that assembled the brakes didn't put the rotor on backwards (they are directional, meaning there is a RH and LH side) as that would cause significant heat build up and increase the chance for warping.

Tony, I forgot to ask, are you running the 1-piece or 2-piece rotors?

Thanks guys...yes I am running the 1-pc rotors. I didn't really prefer the drilled/slotted style but they "insisted" on it. I did follow the bedding procedure...strangely, when I pulled off the pads last week, the surfaces were still not completely worn uniformly. Still looked new toward the center.

I will call them and see what happens....
