: SSM Lowers and Rear Swaybar?
2k3Chevelle468 Oct 13th, 04, 11:41 AM I removed my rear sway bar to install the SSM lowers and cannot get my sway bar back on. I had a larger aftermarket rear swaybar and a borrowed original from a friend. No luck with either. Is there a trick to the installation?

hilljack Oct 13th, 04, 1:09 PM no trick, they don't fit and you don't want to force it. Do a search I think some guys ended up cutting and welding.
mr 4 speed Oct 13th, 04, 2:44 PM I've owned two cars that I installed SSM's on and reused the stock swaybar.
gUmBaLL68Malibu Oct 13th, 04, 2:45 PM With my SSM Lowers and 7/8" Rear bar is was an EXTREMLY tight fit but i did it with a little bit of playing with it. No idea how tight yours is but i was able to get two holes across from eachother but not the others just had to pry on it a bit.
2k3Chevelle468 Oct 14th, 04, 12:04 PM O.K. guys well I'll try it again this weekend. Which two bolts did you put in first?
BlueSS454 Oct 15th, 04, 6:53 PM I could not get one on mine either. I ended up dumping the SSM bars and putting a sdet of Hotchkis arms on it, then it fit like a glove.
Pat Kelley Oct 16th, 04, 1:09 PM The holes on the SSM bars are a bit forward of the stock holes. This makes them closer together. I had to grind my 1" bar to make it fit. I borrowed a 1-3/8" bar to try and it will require taking almost a 1/2" off the length. I don't know why SSM did this. They have to be aware of the problem since they have been making these arms for many, many years.
BlueSS454 Oct 16th, 04, 11:36 PM I called SSM and asked about this issue. They told me "You don't need the stock sway bar with our lift bars"
Pat Kelley Oct 17th, 04, 1:21 AM And yet they put holes in them???????????? Maybe they are for pretty flashing lights.
2k3Chevelle468 Oct 18th, 04, 11:12 AM For now I'm just going to leave it off. I've been driving the car almost daily and I haven't noticed any handling issues without it. And the car really hooks with the Jegs SSM bars.
Thanks for all of the feedback guys.
Derek69SS Oct 20th, 04, 7:36 PM I just forced it. Mine was about 1/4" too long, but with a little grinding and some creative tweaking, I got it wedged in there.
I can't believe they'd tell you that you don't need one, when the directions repeated using the sway-bar several times graemlins/clonk.gif
Bob West Oct 20th, 04, 11:05 PM I used them without a swaybar, decided to add a swaybar, then took it back out, I could tell no difference and there was no improvement in 60ft times.
2k3Chevelle468 Oct 22nd, 04, 12:17 AM Thanks all for the replys. Rapid - that was what I was hoping to hear. I'm leaving it off.
Thanks again.
