: The 3:73 gears are awesome Thanks Dave!

Thanks to Dave P my gears in the Camaro were switched from 3:31's to 3:73's. Took it out yesterday and I think I may need new rear tires!! The difference in the low end power was just what I was looking for. Easily brakes the rear tires free with my mild 327.

Had some clicking noise which I thought was coming from the passenger side wheel but found it was coming from the rear of my transmission where the drive line slid in. But after I lowers it off the jack stands it went away, so no noise!

Now all I need is to replace my edelbrock 650 Carb with a Holley 600 DP; if anyone knows of one for sale or trade let me or Kevin know!

Congrats on the new gearing and successful test drive!

Cool, glad they work for you. It was probably the u-joint being at a different angle, while on jackstands. Check both u-joints, just to be safe.

i think ericw has a 650dp just rebuilt that he'd sell. He figured out he needed a bigger carb for his motor after his improvements.

I would go 650DP over a 600DP....leaves you room for growth.

I think your right on the angle, it was clicking while driving and then came home and lifted it onto the jack stands and found the noise coming from the rear of the tranny. checked the u-joints to ensure they were tight (they were) lowered the car and drove it again but no more clicking noise.

Thanks will have to talk with Eric! Wouldnt the 600dp create better low end torque vice the 650 with the 327.

It's a 327...wind it up!

If you want torque... spray it!

Seriously, I think a 650 double pumper would work just fine on a 327.

Mike,

You kinda gave up the economic thing by going 3.73s.....
Support the engine with the 650DP, don't look back

I went from 3:23's to 3:73's on my Camaro and wound up putting Nitto 555 drag radials. The gear/tire combo was the biggest performance improvement I did for my car.

Got a guy at work to loan me a 570 street avenger and a 600 Holley DP to test on my car! SWEET. He said I will like the street avenger most, he took off a 650 edelbrock like mine and put that on and said it made a huge difference.

Below is acouple pics of the 68 next to a 2010 Camaro that I took todayhttp://i791.photobucket.com/albums/yy197/mikenwindy/DSC_0041.jpg?t=1250039880 http://i791.photobucket.com/albums/yy197/mikenwindy/my%20camaro/DSC_0057.jpg?t=1250039956

Hmmmm, The hubby was Army 1LT than CPT at Ft Lewis until a year or more ago. Served with me in Iraq 03-04 before I retired in 06. Think he had Company/Troop Cmd time 07-08. Wifey was USCG, thought out by Ocean Shores somewhere....?Stn Commander? I met her 1-2x at functions. This could have been 2 or more years ago...my how time flys. Also the possibility I have my facts as to her assigned station screwed-up.

I am after the kid across the street's 68 Camaro Ragtop. I ask him 1-2x per year to sell me the car. It was his dad's.... Pops tore it apart completely, cut out the rust, then had a fatal heart attack 5x years ago. Low-optioned ragtop fer sure but a ragtop regardless!

George, how would you hide the rag top from the wife, and it would cost a bit more than the $300 nova debacle that nearly tipped the KETTBO compund over a while back.

There is a LT Kristina Grim, looked up in our global listing, and the only female Grim listed. Might be the same.

Keep on him for the Car! There will be a time where he needs some money and you will be the one he comes to, guarentee it! Then he will kick himself in the butt later on down the road; I did it 23 years ago with my 68 SS Camaro that I traded in for a Honda CRX... I know a CRX??? What was I thinking!!

I don't know what she was complaining about....I had bolted the fenders on!:D While I did see the Nova as a diamond in the rough....she saw it as a hunka. And she just is not a Nova fan. OTOH, a Ragtop Camaro to build and pass down as heirloom...whole 'nuther Enchilada there pal. Probably would have to see the Elky move down the road due to space and $$ limitations.

'keep after the kid"

Thanks.....sounds like the right 1st name. Where is she assigned? Any contact info? You can send this PM. I know the Hubby has completed his command time and is elsewhere but can't quite remember where. Wifey's location could help me triagulate his coordinates.

Re 68 Vert Camaro
I'm respectful and do not bother him too much. He knows I have skills and he has been for little rides in my cars. In his mom's garage are his blown-up import cars throughout the years and there are 3-4 disassembled Holleys, POS SBC PowerPack heads, worn out dome pistons, 67 327 block, looks like iron case T-10.....this thing is just begging for a re-do... The kid (now 25) says the Camaro used to yard the front tires :rolleyes:l:)...I figure 8-$10k in metal and metal work but then you are done and do not have to look back at the body work and metal again...do it once, do it right.
Fat chance me talking Tammy Berg outa her 68 Vert:(
