AVG miles ahead of everybody else !!!! Free is OK but like anything else you get what you pay for !!

I've had issues with both of those using too much system resources. AVG is on my home computers and I install free AVG on the ones I build/sell.

I am using norton 360 on both my machines at home. like mentioned above, it is a bit of a hog, but runs well and has caught lots of stuff effectively. I also run webroot spysweeper together with the norton. between the 2 they catch about everything (also things like internet cookies that i would not consider a threat.) I have not run AVG, so can't campare those for ya.

I dont like either and they will slow down your computer, and they suck. The best to do is get the free ones and update them.:thumbsup:

I agree, Norton slowed my computer down to a crawl.

I use McAfee.

AVG, they have a pay version as well as a free version (pay version does everything, free version does not). As said numerous times, Norton (and McAfee) are resource hogs, I'd avoid either of them.

I second NOD32. I've ran it for years, and recommend it to businesses that I do some consulting for. Never a problem with it unlike Norton and McAfee.

Been using it for 4 years now. Never a problem and much cheaper than Norton (which I used before it became so bloated and slow) and McAfee. You can pick it up at http://www.eset.com/products/nod32.php. Buy the 2 year license and if you have more than one computer you get a discount on multiple copies too.

I wouldn't use both of those programs if they paid me to. They suck resources worse then a half dozen ex wives and ain't that good at digging out the bad stuff.

Also, the big name anti-virus programs are targets of the guys making the viruses. They can take over the auto-update feature of those programs and download more viruses.:yes:

I had McAfee through Yahoo until day before yesrerday when I made the mistake of taking their recommendation of installing IE 8 then everything went haywire! Spent hours on the phone and finally gave up and did a sytems restore back to the original settings in the computer!
Then the McAfee wouldn't download back into the computer and I wound up doing it again and using the Norton 2004 Edition that was in the computer when I got it! I hope it don't crash before I can get help!
Plus I lost my tool bar at the top of my Yahoo Home Page! Nothing but a black box, but it is on there but it is on the IE page! Go figure!!!:sad:

The last time I needed help with Norton. I found it very difficult to find any sort of contact information to get the help I needed whether online or over the phone. Thier software is not even close to being user friendly.

McAfee isn't an anti-virus. It is a virus. I've actually had other anti-virus programs identify Mcafee as a threat to a computer. Norton is a hog that will bring your computer to a stop. In many cases, they both are worse than the viruses you "might" get.

There is nothing wrong with Mcafee for Personal security or for the Enterprise. Have been using it for years without an Issue.

I switched from Norton to TrendMicro with good results

not to bash any product ......... but ........ you'd better have trend Micro 16 as its the newest one out :D I had serious problems with 12 even with all the updates !!
