: Park brake cable?

I bought a new park brake cable for my 69 coupe W/th400 trans.
The one that comes through the floor and hooks up to the pedal.
The cable when installed does not spring to return the pedal to the unpark position.
The part number was listed correct for the th400 trans. and is about 3" longer tha the others for the 350 or man. trans.
I looks to me that the crimp tubing is in the wrong place where it goes through the frame.
Shouldnt it be at the end of the spring when the pedal is in the up/unpark position??
Anyone know about these?
Thanks T.C.

I think you have the wrong cable, the th400 one should be the shorter of the two. the trans is longer, so the need for a shorter cable, it moves the crossmember back for the th400.

Thanks for the reply LeoP
The shorter one is listed for the 350 and the manual transmitions.
I am talking about the cable that goes down through the floor board, then through the frame and hooks up to the cable that goes to the rear brake cables.
It has a spring on one end and a barrel type fitting that hooks up to the park brake assy.
The spring is what pulls your e-brake pedal up when you pull the release handle.

OK, I see what you mean, maybe you have the incorrect intermediate cable. I didn't realize there were two different dash cables.

Thanks again for the reply LeoP:
I guess my question is: am I correct thinking the dash cable is sprung to return the pedal?
If so my new cable is not correct?
I have a short OE cable that is sprung to return the pedal, but it's for the 350/manual transmitions.
The cable for the th400 I think is longer because the trans. is longer and I think that puts the crossmember in adifferent location?

On my 64, the car was so old, the spring on the dash cable was just a bunch of little rings, so I found a small diameter compression spring and spiraled it on and cut it to length. I don't know about the 69 cables, I'll ask my brother in law and get back to you.
