: Another bleeding question.. sorry.

Hey guys.. I've read through some of the threads and believe I get the jist of the process. Here's what I did... Firewall forward restoration on a 71 velle. All Drum/manual brakes. I pulled the MC and all front brake lines. All new lines installed in front. MC was stripped and repainted and re-installed. New gasket between MC and FW. THe distribution block was also removed, stripped, painted and reinstalled.

So I go to bleed the brakes starting in the passenger back. Hit that for about 20 mins... getting nothing but trickling fluid. Same thing on Driver rear. So I decide to just try the fronts. After a while I finally get the fronts to start building pressure.. brake pedal drops (while being held) when valve is opened. Did both sides on the front and they seem okay. Go to try the backs again. Work on both rears for about 30 more mins. Can't seem to get anything other than a little fluid trickling out. The pedal doesn't release when the valve is opened which I believe confirms that the rears are not building pressure.

Any thoughts?

Starting to wonder "Do I really need rear brakes?" :-)

Thanks

Pat

You said MC was "stripped, repainted and reinstalled". Did you bench bleed? Try gravity bleeding rears first... takes patience.

Thanks Dave.... I had bench bled the MC. I did try gravity bleeding and I got the fronts to go but couldn't get the backs going. So I just kept going at it and I finally got the backs to bleed. I know this is unusual and I don't know what caused it but I probably spent 3 hours bleeding before it all cleared up. Probably could have been a little quicker had I had I helper. I would pump the brakes and then wedge a brick under the pedal real tight. I'm sure that added to the excessive time it took.

Thanks

Pat
