: 71 SS dash wireharness
I'm going to convert my chevelle dash to an SS tack set up. I'm having trouble finding a harness without breaking the bank. I have been told that it is possible to modify the existing harness to work on the SS set up. Does anyone know how to do this or where I could get the information. Thanks.
undee70ss Aug 7th, 09, 2:23 AM It depends on what harness you have currently. Do you have the sweep dash or the round idiot light dash.
The round idiot light dash is easier to convert.
Does anyone know how to do this or where I could get the information. Thanks. Right here in the electrical forum, do a search, a ton of threads on this.
texasgilbert Aug 7th, 09, 2:42 AM I've seen kits on Ebay to convert idiot light round dash to gauge style dash.

BUBBA2711 Aug 7th, 09, 6:37 AM Look up Elree Colby. He helped me with mine. At the very least you need the printed circuit connector.
I have the Chevelle sweep dash now. I know there is a kit to convert the idiot to a guage system but I was told that a sweep could be altered to work on a guage dash.
OK, to show my ignorance I don't know Elree Colby and how do I locate him? Jon

That sounds like a lot of cutting and splicing wires. I changed my sweep dash to a round dash with lights and had to change the fuse box harness.

First, A 72 harness (I'm told will not work in a 70-71, however I have been told that some people have made it work. My 71 only has air, radio, bone stock. I probably will have to buy a harness but was hoping that with alittle work I could make the sweep harness work. Someone I know (not a friend) told me he has done it a couple of times. I have not asked him how much he would charge to do mine because I'm not at that point now and won't be there for quite some time.
BUBBA2711 Aug 8th, 09, 11:52 AM You CAN make a 72 harness work in a 71. I have done it myself and have pics to prove it.
BUBBA2711 Aug 8th, 09, 11:57 AM How i did mine was to purchase the harness first. Then i came on here and asked a bunch of questions. A week later i was done. This was done while working 60 hrs a week with a wife.
texasgilbert Aug 8th, 09, 1:10 PM Hey Bubba, love that new nameplate with the lifetime membership and Chevy orange color!
I had a 72 with sweep dash, and with the help of Steve S, I converted it to a round tach dash. Not too hard, with the guidance of a pro.
BUBBA2711 Aug 8th, 09, 11:19 PM Thanks gilbert! I love it too!:hurray:
JCF Aug 10th, 09, 11:28 PM Hey Bubba. I wish I had heard from you before I sold a very good 72 harness because everyone I talked to said either it would not work or that it would be very hard to make it work. Now I'm looking for another harness
BUBBA2711 Aug 14th, 09, 10:15 PM Yeah, i have missed out on a lot of opportunities too.:(
