Please help! I'm trying to switch back from a wood wheel thats on my 66 Chevelle to the original GM wheel. I thought I needed a canceling cam , but I guess its already in the column. I have enclosed several pictures to help describe my problem. I'm pretty sure Im missing a part or parts in the steering column. Any suggestions and advice are greatly appreciated.....thank you jim

The cancelling cam and the spring under it fits over top the t/s switch. In the pictures you have posted it is missing and needed. You also need the wheel attaching nut, horn shroud and all the guts that go in there.

I believe that the 1966 steering wheel should have a plastic canceling cam screwed to the bottom of the steering wheel hub. It is not the same as the 1967 and later cams. Those later cams had lobes that stuck out to kick the turn signal switch back to neutral. The 1966 and older cams had a cylindrical extension that had a cutout. The cylindrical part extended down into the switch. The cutout allowed the turn signal switch to reach left or right turn, the solid section would kick the switch back to neutral. I thought that I saw a picture of the old cam recently. But I can't seem to find it now.

I have a Classic Muscle Catalogue 1-800-722-4828 that lists:
64-66 382931 Turn Signal Cancelling Cam (exc. tilt) 19.95

Hope that it is the correct one.

The canceling drum, fits down on top of the cam (your pix), with a extinsion on top that fits into the bottom of the steering wheel (thru the larger hole), that protrudes thru the wheel that has the horn contact on it, then there is a horn contact ring held on with 3 special screws with a plastic insalator for the horn ring.
Hope this makes sense ?
