Im putting all new brake shoes on the front and rear (drum brakes) along with all new wheel cylinders on my 68 El Camino. But first I have to install the freshly painted master cylinder and brake booster. I emptied master cylinder of fluid just before painting. My question is this: After I install the master cylinder and brake booster, when I refill the master cylinder with fresh fluid and am ready to start bleeding the brakes, Do I start with the wheel cylinder CLOSEST to the master cylinder or FARTHEST from the master cylinder ?? Also when I re-install my power steering pump and hoses, what is the best way to bleed the power steering pump ?? Thanks,Mark ---------------------------------------1968 Chevelle Malibu (Weekend Cruiser)-------------------------------1968 El Camino (Daily Driver)

You actually need to bench bleed the master before it goes on the car. You have to get the bubbles out of the master cylinder and you can't when it's on the car because it is mounted at an angle. Then after install, you bleed the brakes starting with the farthest wheel and working to the closest.
Passenger rear, driver rear, passenger front, driver front.
For the steering, fill up the pump to the proper line, run the motor and turn the steering wheel lock to lock a bunch of times. Check the fluid and keep topping off until the level stops going down.

Bench bleed?
I take it, one is taking the m/c and bleeding it out of the vehicle?
Is there an easy way to do that...?
Or better phrased... a WRONG way?

There is a way to do it on the car. Go look for a kit at NAPA that connects the output of the master to plastic fittings to CLEAR tubing back into the master's reseviours.
Slowly depress the pedal 3/4's of the way until no bubbles are present in the line or seen the master reseviour. ;)
If you do not see fluid in the fron, you probably pushed to far and the front plunger is stuck.
Either take it apart of swap the whole thing out.

Then you start at the wheel farthest away..... graemlins/sad.gif
