Looking to clear up my rear suspension problems.

I'm running a 9" rear end and for some reason the owner/installer of the rear decided the stock mounting locations for the shocks were in the wrong place....so he moved them. So, I cannot just order a specific shock for a '71 Chevelle, I don't think it will fit. I'm not too happy about the location and it is quite puzzling..they are 'inboard' of the springs, angled outward from bottom to top with the lower mount at the outer edge of the pumpkin..very odd, almost like an afterthought  when converting the rear. Not really wanting to get into a total redesign of the rear setup either.

This location causes a very mild shimmy/shake during low speed (under 10mph) turns because the springs and shocks are fighting each other.

Set up now...coil springs (assuming stock) and air shocks...I know, I know..and boxed lower/adj. upper cont. arms.

Set up to be...new Moog CC501's with airbags, BMR lowers with same adj. upper cont. arms and I don't know what shocks

So the question...can I order a shock that lists a Min. and Max. travel like a Koni SPA1 shock (drag use only) and live with it on the street???

Or am I taking a gamble using them?

Sorry to be so long-winded, it's taken me a while to figure out what and how to ask... graemlins/clonk.gif

Did you search the performance forum? More drag shock users hang out in there. And you have a rather odd setup there that may make a differance on what shocks you can use. Good luck. smile.gif
