Of all you guys that have done the drum to disc swap, did you reuse the original booster that your car came with? I am getting ready to start my drum to disc swap and was wanting to know if I should just use the original booster that my car came with, the single reservoir master cylinder. I will be installing the dual reservoir master cylinder. Will it work ok?

What exactly did you put on your setup? The tall spindle upgrade? One of the aftermarket replacement setups?

You should use a dual resevoir master cyl. alright, but which one may depend on what you put on.

I am assuming you are talking front disc brakes and not rear? What's on the rear? Stock drums?

If you don't get a suggestion on what master to use here, there are a couple rodders boards that guys do swaps like this before breakfast. I had an old mechanic recommend what master for me, and I don't remember what it was now. Something like a Caprice 1988 version or something like that. I was able to get a rebult one over the counter for little cash.

yes, you can reuse your old booster with the dual master for disc/drum.

I am using a new front aftermarket kit that I purchased. It is not a tall spindle conversion. The kit I purchased included 2" drop spindles, dual reservoir master cylinder, pro. valve and bracket, new bearings, calipers, pads, rotors, flex hoses, dust cap, nuts and pins. Drums are still on the rear. Will I need to change the master cylinder if I do decide to put disc on the rear?

If you are running roller rockers with high valve covers, it will probably be necessary to use a smaller booster than the stock one that came on your car. Clearance for valve covers is the issue.

I'm in the same boat as you and have asked this question before. Everybody told me I could use the original booster.

I am currently using the original booster with drums all around with tall Dart aluminum valve covers on my Dart Pro 1 heads with Harland Sharp roller rockers, and yes it was a tight fit but it worked. Now I'm at the point where I am getting ready to install the front disc brake kit and want to make sure I do it correctly, so that the front brakes will function properly. Thanks for the replies.

I have dart heads, roller rockers & a girdle with some much taller than stock valve covers. With a little creative manuvering of the valve cover, I can get it off without any trouble and a normal booster. Why I think I have enough vacuum to use it is another question..
