: 65 rear seat removal
richietables Aug 5th, 09, 7:18 AM I'm looking to take out the rear seat in my '65 convertible to see if there are some seat belts hidden down there.
1) how do I get the bottom out?
2) am I dreaming even to look for belts at all?
Thanks:beers:
SCOTTS66 Aug 5th, 09, 7:34 AM The belts I dont know about. The rear seat bottom requires some hard pushing in some cases. If you kneel in front of the seat, you will push the bottom front towards the rear of the car and then lift up.The seat should be disengaged from the front retaining brackets at that point and pull right out.
richietables Aug 5th, 09, 7:54 AM Thanks Scott- I'll give it a go. Hope I can get it back in!
richietables Aug 5th, 09, 8:22 AM Thanks- The seat came up just fine. There are actually belts there! I have two kids and want to get them in. I'll get replacement belts from OPGI, they $23 each. My old buckles are nasty. Had the car 8 years already and never bothered to look. :beers::beers::beers:
twotone64 Aug 5th, 09, 9:32 AM Congrats.
datapusher Aug 27th, 09, 9:32 AM be careful. i took out the rear seat a few years back and was never able to get it back in. It will go, but the fabric covered particle board above the rear accessory try keeps making the seat pop out.
makes for a shock when i have to brake hard!

Rear seat belts, factory installed ones anyway, are REALLY rare so don't just throw any of the old stuff away.

I don't understand this. The upright cushion attaches over hooks at the top near the package shelf, the lower portion is held in by metal tabs bent over metal loops at the bottom of the seat frame. It shouldn't be able to move AT ALL once installed. The lower seat cushion should snap firmly into the hooks welded to the floor. What exactly isn't making a good connection? Sounds to me you didn't get the top of the upright cushion down over the hooks properly. You have to push it firmly to the rear and then down to engage the hooks.

If i remove the particle board ontop of the rear acc tray, I ca get it to go in and snap no problem. But it is ugly w/ the rusted metal and speaker holes.
However, if I put the particle board (for lack of the correct name) in there and then put the seats in, they will not go back into place at all. If I put the seats abck in place first and then try to put the particle board in there it won't fit.
But being that everything in this car was jacked up from the previous owner (anti-hop bars on a lowrider for example) I wouldn't be surpirised if this wan't the right one for this year.

The package shelf cover should slide under the lip of the rear window and under the c-pillar headliner earmuffs. The only thing left protruding from the package shelf cover when fully installed would be the flap of vinyl at the leading edge which is supposed to be folded down and glued to the metal bracing which the seat cushion covers when installed.
If the package shelf cover you have is something made by a previous owner, then it's too big (too wide front to rear) and needs to be trimmed to fit right. The package shelf cover should end right at the edge where the metal of the package shelf bends downward to meet the trunk divider bracing.

From what I recolect, it does fit under the lip of the rear window.
It sticks out over the rear seat, making a proper fit impossible for the seat.

Then trim that sucker or buy a ready-made proper cover from one of any number of vedors who sell them. To be properly installed, the shelf cover should also have two little plastic strips on either end where it slides under the headliner muffs. These are reproduced too and can be bought from most vendors.
