: Bought a 2008 mustang Gt today
Elviss 1971 Aug 3rd, 09, 11:18 PM As the title states I was a bit busy today as I found a 2008 Mustang GT locally with 4,900 miles on it for $4,000 under book value. It was loaded with black leather interior , 5 speed .....cranberry red , very sharp. I know hard to believe but true the guy was wanting to move and had way to many toys so he parted with a few . Still smells new as they bought it in JAN of 2009 must have sat in the lot or ordered late in the fall ? The only issue was his teenage daughter was driving it and must have never learned how to wash or clean the interior of a car but it looks much better after claying, waxing + vacuming. Seems that the family is a bit wealthy and treated the poor old Mustang like a red headed stepchild ...never garaged and covered with tree sap. I counted 6 sports cars that this guy had but all foreign. Oh well it has a nice home now.
1BLACKHARLEY Aug 3rd, 09, 11:22 PM you will have a blast with that car. mine has been great. just remember the party starts at 3,000 r.p.m. they are really fun cars....
53Chev Aug 4th, 09, 1:53 AM Hate to sound like I was weened on lemons but.....I only owned one ford in my life and that was a 1990 mustang 5L LX and that was my first and last ford EVER. Nothing but problems and finally ford pulled the warranty with over 45 thousand miles left on the warranty.Their explanation was that the car was costing them too much money to cover in warranty repairs. I treated it like gold and won some awards at some major car shows. On top of the warranty being pulled, it was always a fight to get some things covered under warranty that some dealerships said were covered and some said werent. Always a hassel and finally I just gave up and sold it for peanuts just to get rid of the hunk of junk. Have owned GM's most of my life and never had a complaint.
Good luck with your Ford, but you would be further ahead to have bought a GM.
Elviss 1971 Aug 4th, 09, 6:46 AM Well I hope it is not a lemon but I guess you never know . I have had 2 ford products in the past and no problems . Really hard to pass this car up with the price and low miles ...it will sit next to the chevy and get limited use as I will drive my grand prix most of the time.:)

hpsherlin Aug 4th, 09, 8:34 AM You'll love it. Great cars.
I love any kind of performance car.
We drove my wife's 04 Mach I to Indiana and back this past week.
You have to roll in and out of it but it rides really nice and plenty of power when you want it.
richietables Aug 4th, 09, 8:43 AM First, let me say I LOVE the photos of your yellow big black car. That said, have fun with the new car. :(
grandsport Aug 4th, 09, 8:49 AM I had on 04 GT for a company car last summer, really enjoyed the crap out of it.;)
Beaux Aug 4th, 09, 11:17 AM Im starting to see these cars for what I consider to be dirt cheap.
There was an 08 in the paper with 8 grand on the ticker for under 18.2 K asking price.
Lots of 8's there. But seems that they are being sold like crazy and dropping in price pretty fast. Guess its the economy, gas, whatever.

Hmmmmmmm, never heard anyone say that before about Warranty work. Sorry to hear that. I guess FORD isn't perfect, kinda like my dads brand new 87 MONTE CARLO SS. Starters kept going out, T-tops leaked, head gaskets blowing out, alternators not staying charged...finally traded it for a new Truck. Now, my '92 GT I haven't had a problem with. I've replaced 3 starters and the windshield wiper motor...and that's IT. I've owned it since '95 and done only mod's that I WANTED to do.
I guess we all get some good ones and some don't. I guess I'm lucky with the 5 brand new Fords I've bought in my short life time.

Elvis, I have an '08 GT, Black, leather 5 speed, Chrome wheels, etc etc blah blah. Fun car so far and there are a ton of accessories for it available. HAVE FUN! Got any pix of it yet?
Beaux, I got a pretty good deal on mine too, but I like the '08 GT look. It gets way better gas mileage than my old '07 F150 XLT did.

Beaux Aug 4th, 09, 2:00 PM Wally - Sharp car. They look fun and seem to run good. I did not mean to play down the mustang, just referencing that there are deals to be had. Nice car.

Beaux...I knew that, I didn't mean to sound "snappy". Sorry if it came out like that.

You're a marine. I would be shocked and disappointed if it DIDNT sound snappy. Apologize again and i'll find a drill instructor to kick you off the obstacle and force you to eat a jelly doughnut on your foot locker while everyone else does pushups. :D
Rock on, brother.
chevelledude71 Aug 4th, 09, 2:19 PM GOOD TO GO!
As a matter of fact, there is a former Drill Instructor in my office right now. I'll tell him to haze me for about an hour. Sound good?
:)

lol
davoaz Aug 4th, 09, 3:17 PM I used to work at a ford dealer in the late 80's. My buddy and I used to say all those buyers will pay for their car twice. Once to the dealer and once to the service dept. I'm sure nowadays they got their act together.
I guess FORD isn't perfect, kinda like my dads brand new 87 MONTE CARLO SS.
Just about everything Detroit put out in the 80's was crap. Thats why foreigns were able to gain their share of the market.
Elviss 1971 Aug 5th, 09, 6:47 AM Wow ! A mixed audience for sure .....but it is a Chevy site after all. :) Personally if it is a American car I am happy. Well here is a photo of the exterior after really working with a clay bar , rubbing compound and finally wax to remove all the tree sap ETC.

69malibu3speed Aug 5th, 09, 8:37 AM Your Mustang looks great. I really wanted the '08 dark green Bullitt edition one they had at my local Ford dealer. Couldn't buy it...but I certainly wish I could have.
mr 4 speed Aug 5th, 09, 8:47 AM Nice looking ride Terry  nothing wrong with a nice Mustang GT of any vintage!
American muscle is American muscle...

I test drove both the Green and Black one here. To be honest, for the money, the GT is still the better deal. I know, I know the BULLITT name is all good, but it didn't feel any different in the seat of my pants. :)
Terry...looks great. How did the Clay Bar work out for you?
1ATony Aug 5th, 09, 3:57 PM That's a great looking Mustang.
Bob Flynn Aug 5th, 09, 4:30 PM I like the way they look better than the camaro, thinkin of one my self
Chevelle_Nut Aug 5th, 09, 5:03 PM Me too Georgia69, I agree 100%!
Since the local GM dealer closed and I don't want to deal with a mega dealer I will go to Ford if I buy a new car. I have a buddy who owns a Ford dealership 10 miles a way, the place is a hole in the wall, the car lot is a grass field and no showroom. He sells cars cheap because the place is paid for.
hpsherlin Aug 5th, 09, 5:11 PM Any new car I buy in the future, unless things change alot, will be a Ford.
I like old Chevy's and new Ford's.
What can I say....just the way of life as it is now.

wills65 Aug 5th, 09, 5:26 PM Nice score on the Stang. A very good friend of mine has an '08 GT as well and he couldn't be more happy with it. He had an '03 Mach 1 before this one. He says that on average he gets around 18-19mpg in the city with the car. I've driven the GT a few times and if I were looking for a NEW car I wouldnt even have to think about it, Mustang for sure. I've got an '88 notch 5.0 5-speed and even though it is dated and doesn't run perfect, I love it. Enjoy it and change that shifter ASAP its like shifting with Playdough.
Elviss 1971 Aug 5th, 09, 10:29 PM Terry...looks great. How did the Clay Bar work out for you?[/QUOTE]
Well Wally it made a believer out of me as mentioned earlier this car had tons of tree sap and now it is pretty clean. I washed the car , than clayed it 2X, washed it , dryed and waxed it. Your Mustang and Chevelle are sharp by the way.
chevelledude71 Aug 5th, 09, 10:32 PM 'Preciate the info. I'm thinking of running a clay bar over my '92gt. Thanks
Bullitt 3484 welcomes your GT to the fold!!!!
I love my pony, and it's been great for a year and 28k miles.
Also love my Chevelle and my one Jeep.
pnugene Aug 5th, 09, 10:55 PM Eeeeewwwwwwww, It's a F*rd! Just kidding, nice ride.
Autoengineer Aug 6th, 09, 1:13 AM See my wife's '07 in my sig. Just went over 20k miles and not a single problem. Its a blast to toss around corners.
CustomChevyGuy Aug 6th, 09, 1:36 AM im not going to bash you for buying a Ford, its your money and your choice. it looks like you got a great deal, and as long as you're happy with it, then rock on! not to bad from the pic man.
6T8 Chevelle Aug 6th, 09, 3:31 AM Congrats on your purchase and am glad you are happy with it. If you get the performance itch those cars respond extremely well to basic bolt ons. Friend of mine with an 07 GT that had a cold air intake, plug in tune, axle back exhaust, stall convertor, and gears took me for a ride in his. I was EXTREMELY impressed with how his car ran. I wanted one so bad that I actually went shopping for one. I didn't want to be like every Tom, Dick and Harry driving down the road so I ended up with an 06 GTO and am very happy with it. Everyone has a Mustang and that is my one and only negative thing to say about them. Other than that they are great cars for car people. Congrats again! :)

I like those GTOs as well .The GTO,Challenger,Camaro or Mustang is what I was looking for and went with this.

Yep...he settled for the best.

That's funny...I worked at a Chevy Dealer in the late 80's~90's and this is my thought exactly. The cars were built like crap and I would see the same customers come in over and over again...
MalibuJerry350 Aug 7th, 09, 9:14 PM I've purchased my '06 Mustang GT in March of 2006 and have over 89,000 miles on the clock. Absolutely NO problems at all! I just change the oil/filter every 3000 miles and drive. In fact, I just changed the rear brake pads (still had plenty of meat left) and will be doing the front in a couple of weeks. They too still have at least 5,000 or so miles left on them. The quality of this car is fantastic. With 89,000 miles, the car is still solid and handles like new. For someone who has only driven GM cars all his life, I'm very happy with the 'Stang. Ford sure got it right. Like Blackharley says, the party starts at around 3,000 RPM! After that, that engine winds up very quick! A real blast to drive! Oh, the original tires had almost 70,000 miles before they were swapped. Yep, I'm sure getting my money's worth, and having a hell of a time as well. :D
Oh, one more thing...with all the fun, I also get a consistent 28 miles per gallon on the highway at 65 MPH. Not too shabby. Not too shabby indeed.
BigsWick Aug 8th, 09, 12:59 PM I bought a '90 GT vert stick new in late '89, and it was a helluva a car, maybe the best new car I've ever owned. I beat the piss out of it and it didn't complain once. I should have never sold it. Congratulations on your new ride.
circletrack Aug 8th, 09, 1:03 PM I have a'03 GT that I love! We ordered out a new Cobalt a few years back and quickly realized what a cheap POS it was once it came in. We've never owned a Ford before, but decided to try out the Mustang and haven't regretted the decision. Very fun car to drive, no problems at all. I keep it clean and polished just like the Chevelle! :)
Great purchase you have there, I may have to try that claybar myself.
The Chevelle is currently waiting to be cleaned up from a show I took her to last weekend.... the grease from the food went downwind, grrr!
Elviss 1971 Aug 8th, 09, 3:51 PM Pretty good article in this months Motor Trend. 2010 Mustang GT vs 2010 Chevy Camaro SS vs 2010 Hemi Challenger. Despite having "only" a 4.6 Litre v8, 5 speed transmission and the old live axle the Mustang pulled more Gs on the skidpad and held it's own in the 0-60. It was not as fast in the 1/4 however but the Ford (the article said) won the shootout. This shootout is available on you tube ...just type in "2010 Mustang GT vs 2010 Chevy Camaro SS vs 2010 Hemi Challenger". IMO they are all fine cars and each one would look good in my garage.
