We have an inground salt water pool with diamondbrite marcite finish that keeps staining a light brown color. Its starts by the drains and works its way till it covers the whole floor, but not the walls. Its somewhat blotchy. Last winter, live in Florida I drained it and washed down with acid to get the stain out, nothing else worked. Its not algae or other organic stuff. I think it mineral like iron or copper but stain id kits did not provide any clues. Anybody been thru this and find a solution, I don't what to drain and acid wash again.

If your chemistry is off, it could be pulling copper from heater coils, or even the pump.

That is probably copper. I had the same problem. Have your water tested for metals at your Pool store to confirm. Use Metal Magic or Conquest. That will drop your minerals to the bottom. Vacuum to waste.

I am not a pool expert but I just added a salt water generator to my pool this year and in the instructions it said to use only sodium chloride (NaCl) salt that is at least 99.8% pure. Do not use the iodized salt because it will cause the water to turn yellowish and I believe cause stains. Also it will cause the electrolytic cell to deteriorate.

Why do people want a salt water pool??? :confused:Seen a lot of these advertised in the local real estate ads. What's the advantage of one, putting a shark or barracuda in it so the neighbors can't swim while you're gone??:D

When I do a pool it will be a salt water one. You get out dry off and feel great. No burning eyes or chemical smell. Just dry off and go.

Hmm, when I go to the beach, I always shower after being in the water so that the salt doesn't stick to my skin and make me feel yucky. Same deal with a chlorinated pool.

They are not salty like the ocean, not even close. I can always taste a little salt when I'm in one though. The water is very soft, feels nice. The big advantage is you add salt rather than chlorine, which saves money. A cell converts the salt to chlorine, so you don't have to pay as much attention to the chemical level. It does not, however, get you from having to keep the PH balance right. Also, with certain types of rocks and slates, the salt pools can erode the rocks.

When you get out of a salt water pool you leel smooth. The salt is like what they use in water softners. I thought the same when I first heard this. I'm telling you, nothing like the ocean. No red eyes. Almost like swiming in saline.

The concentration of salt in swimming pools are 4000 parts per million. The concentration of salt in the ocean is 35 parts per thousand.
