: 75-80 Dragway thoughts
chevellemalibu67 Aug 2nd, 09, 6:48 PM Well guys 75-80 Dragway has been reopened since April. I try and go every week to support my local track. Have any of you guys been up there yet? What do you think? Of course its not the same as it was but its still got that vibe. They seem to have pretty much all the problems worked out. Have'nt raced the Chevelle there yet but ill do it soon enough. So let me hear your thoughts on 75-80.
69SUPERSPORT396 Aug 5th, 09, 11:41 AM Glad they reopened.
I used to attend a show/race held there years ago by Baltimore's Best Chevy Club.
Chevelle_Nut Aug 5th, 09, 12:50 PM When I lived between New Market and Mt Airy I would go pass by there everyday on my way to work in Montgomery County, I am glad they reopened the track.
tatoodkelt Aug 5th, 09, 12:56 PM I'm stoked that its back open! Thats the first track I raced at and my dad also worked there as as a teenager, he was the flag dropper before they had the tree.
Hellucallit Aug 12th, 09, 10:04 PM With the track only 3 miles from my house, it has given me the incentive to get my butt in gear and finish my '68. I raced it there a few times in the early '90s and am eager to go racing again. Did you know that the county is trying to get them shut down by threatening to rezone the property to agricultural, even though all the buildings around them are zoned commercial and the track has been for over 50 years!!

That figures.
From what I heard (correct me if I'm wrong), but houses were to be built on the property. After some sort of sight survey, they found "toxic" substances that would have kept the sale of these houses from happening. At least that is the rumor.
But anyone that lives in Maryland knows local counties NEVER rezone property back to agricultural. The only thing this state knows how to do is rezone from agricultural to residential or commercial. I think it's a law. l:)
Hellucallit Aug 13th, 09, 5:20 PM I viewed the development plan for the site at Winchester Hall, the shoppping center was to be where the starting line is. It was high density housing that was close to the shopping center and the further back you went, the more land you got. The developer had problems with the county regarding zoning issues and pulled out of the deal which then put the land back in the Wilcoms hands.
Chevelle_Nut Aug 13th, 09, 5:44 PM Hey Mark, Is the AT&T underground at the top of the hill on 85 still being used? If it is how can they build houses around there?
Hellucallit Aug 14th, 09, 7:49 PM The AT&T site is still being used, the development property had that corner cut out of it. If you site down the track, most of the residential development was to the right.

They had the most horribly weathered, warped & curled planks in the grandstands, ever.
They had the best hotdogs, with the best & most homemade toppings.
Hope they fixed the "funhouse" grandstand, and kept the delicious hot dogs! :)
A dragway *re-opening* any where any time is rare-city, & a good thing!!
BK72SS Sep 28th, 09, 4:25 PM I'm glad it reopened, it's right in my backyard and I drive by it everyday to work. I have raced there in the past, but haven't since it opened back up, I am planning on going real soon since they close on halloween this year. I have been several times as a spectator and have enjoyed myself, there were some bugs that needed worked out when they started but I think they have most of them taken care of. Hey Donny let's meet at the track and run em', I've seen your car at the Jimmie cone but haven't talked to you.
chevellemalibu67 Sep 28th, 09, 7:31 PM Hey Brandon yeh Ive seen your car alot. Id like to get the car up there this year and run it. It would probally spin with the skinny ass tires on lol. If we were gonna run em than its gotta be after Ocean City cause I dont want to break anything, that be my luck. You comin down to the Ocean?
