Has anyone heated their springs to drop a car? What would be the pros vs cons in doing this? I've heard of it but I saw it done on an episode of monster garage recently. Of course Jesse James referred to it as "a Long Beach lowering kit" which was humorous in itself.

The biggest con is heat weakens metal and since the springs are under pressure...weakness in them is bad. Weak springs break. I don't see any pros at all about doing this to a spring.

From everything I have heard heating springs is a no no. I know small circle track cars that has had springs heated but not on a street car.:noway:

I have heard the same as everyone else. Heat=bad for springs
I was always advised to cut them with a blade and dip them in oil afterwards for some reason?
I heard the oil acted as something, but I can't remember what.
