Is it possible to take a post and somehow save its contents so you have access to it permanently like on your computer or even a flash drive? Say, it gets deleted after several months or years and you still have access to it even though its physically deleted off the web?

Is this possible? Or should I just print it and be done with it, which will give my printer a good workout as there is too many pictures. Its from another forum.

That won't work if it gets deleted, it won't be there when you try to bring it up again.
You need to copy and paste it to your hard drive like was said above.

Copy and pasting it to my hard drive leaves it as a internet link still. I tried to do that exact same thing and when I clicked on the stored link. It went directly to the internet page. So that wont work. Unless im missing something here.

I dont have word but I do have access to it. If I try copying it with word, will the pictures that occompany the article also copy too or will I only get the text?

I guess that's probably because you're copying the URL and not the actual text.
It does take some editing when you paste it into word or note pad though.
You probably need to save the pictures individually I would think.

Well I did manage to save it along with the pictures with the article. I tried it with Word on a different computer that doesnt belong to me and it saved just fine with the pictures. However, since I dont personally have word software on my computer, the file wont open. Are there any alternatives? Looks like I cant win on this.

With IE8.......If you don't see File, click Alt, File, Save As,.........In the Save in box navigate to where you want to save the file, in the File Name box give the file a name, in the Save As Type box box use "Web Archive single file (*.mht)

I have been using this method for yrs. I have some posts saved when the background was yellow on TC.

Im using the current IE and XP. I dont see anything regarding the ALT option. But I can click file, then save as, but I tried that and even changed the file name but it still went to the internet link instead of staying offline. Ill probably end up taking Deans suggestion and just save the text and the pictures seperately, which will make it a pain to read later down the road.

If you click file, save as, give it a new name, and make sure the box under the file name shows "Web Archive, Single File" it will save that page for offline use.

Try it, but don't forget you will have to save a page for each page of the forum.

unplug your network cable and load the page. It'll work.

I also have my Thread Display Options set at 40 posts per page so that most threads are only one page, but like Big D said, if the thread is more than one page, you would have to save each page. Heres a screen shot of a thread from 2001, and yes I can scroll the page just like it was originally.

Just an update. I tried what Chaos suggested and it appears to have worked. Very strange. I would have never thought it really did work if I didnt physically disconnect my motem from logging online and the post popped right up just as if it were trying to go online. Im now thinking my original attempt above when I tried this may have actually worked. I never would have thought of keeping my computer from actually logging onto the internet. Which by the way, it very well may not have logged on, even when my internet was disconnected to load the file. It looked just like it was logging online. Thanks for the help.

The page should look exactly the same as it does online. (unless more posts are added after you saved it)
