compaq presario c700 with Vista

anything and everything I download no matter where I try to save it, (desk top, file on desk top, my documents, downloads etc) the file does not exist. It isn't any specific application like a .jpg or .txt. It doesnt matter if I try to download a file from the internet or from an email.

I am also having a posible related problem: when I try to open any Microsoft office programs a window pops up like it is the first time I used it stating "installing program".

I was originally running the AVG that came with the computer, and had my brother, who works for microsoft, go to uninstall AVG and install McAffe that my ISP provides for free. Well he couldn't uninstall AVG so putting McAffee would cause other problems with both on at the same time.

I cleared all the crap, ran C-Cleaner, ran a defrag, and restored to an earlier date, user is set as an adminstrator.

i cant even update AVG it is behind on its updates, windows updater cant download what i need either.

Help is appreciated.

try to reinstall AVG.

Also, use another computer to download AVG (thumbdrive) then install from it.

good luck,

So if you save a file, and click open on the completed window, the file doesn't run?

You can find the instructions to uninstall AVG, just google it.

If you go into services, (start, run, services.msc) and disable the avg services, you will have no problem running mcafee with avg installed.

Look here..
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_save_or_download_files

There is one section that mentions disabling anti-virus (form services menu), to see if you can then save files.

I havent done anything to the computer yet. But to clarify the issues: no matter what I try to "download" or "open" or "save" it goes through the process but does not truly save, and it wont open either. Like I stated, it isn't an issue of "I don't know where I saved it, or it saved it somewhere else."

At the options of "open" or "save" no matter which I choose it will download go through the process and nothing will happen.

I have to get a thumb drive and try the AVG upload that way. All other processes of the computer are running find except what I have stated.
