View Full Version : 12 bolt's in!!!
Big James 4XL Jul 31st, 04, 1:39 PM Finished the install last night and made a road test/run-in this morning. No gear noise at all and the posi works fine!!! graemlins/beers.gif
I took the "new" springs I had previously installed that raised the rear 2-3 inches out and put the origional springs back in to get the stock ride height back. I think the raised height had something to do with the wheel hop issue that started when I pit them in. No wheel hop now but the thing is still lifting the right rear pretty bad. I'm going to play around with the air bag pressures and see if I can help that any.
The speedometer is 2-3mph fast now but I can live with that.
Here's a couple pics to show off all the detailing nobody will ever see!

1967talldeck427 Jul 31st, 04, 3:20 PM I agree, all that hard work and a great looking rear-end and no one will see it unless they get down on their knees. At least yours can be seen somewhat from the rear, mine you cant see unless you stand on your head.

What kinda gears you running?
mr 4 speed Aug 1st, 04, 6:47 AM James,looks good graemlins/thumbsup.gif
You went from 2.73's to 3.31's correct?
I will be doing this same swap myself over the next few weeks graemlins/beers.gif
Big James 4XL Aug 1st, 04, 8:28 AM Yep, 3.31 gear now.
I can feel the car pulls harder now and I am getting into overdrive at 45-50 mph instead of 50-55. The bad news is it's lifting the right rear even more now than with the 2.73. Looks like lift bars or slapper bars will be the only cure for that, the air bag trick hasn't helped at all. When cool weather returns in the fall I'll go run it and see if my et has improved.
I think the 3.31 is still a bit tall for optimum performance but maybe fuel milage will not suffer. I've been getting around 19-20 mpg with the 2.73 on highway driving.
I have another 12 bolt housing that I'm going to set up with a 3.73 for more serious playtime later. :D
mr 4 speed Aug 1st, 04, 9:14 AM James, don't doubt the performance potential with 3.31's...my old 442 has run a best of 11.96 with that gear.

I hope they do work well, all I want is to run 12 sec quarters in true street trim just like it is every day. I was close with the 2.73 gear. If I can get this thing to hook a little better I'll be there.

thunderstruck507 Aug 1st, 04, 12:25 PM let me know how fuel milage changes, once I get an overdrive trans in mine I'm considering going from 3.08 to 3.31 since I already have a set
Ok...no bad jokes.
I'm one of the guys that's always 'down on their knees' in the dirt, looking up the 'skirts' of Chevelles, to see all your work.
Keep up the great detailing.
