: what size rotors to go with???
storm Dec 26th, 03, 6:21 PM ready to instaal new front rotors on car (had drums) what size rotors do i go with? i want to put 15 inch wheels on it also when i put on the new rotors on for 15 inch will my stock 14 in rim still go on until my resto project is done??
FO_FDYFO Dec 27th, 03, 11:33 AM oh boy that is an open question. there are lots of options. do you want factory 11" disc brakes or do you want the bigger 12" rotors? you can buy an expensive conversion kit or put together stuff from a boneyard? need more info from you and there is plenty of info here if you do a search. some 14" rims will work over factory discs. i have them. but i doubt they will fit over the 12" rotor combo. get a glimps of what i did on my web site, in the sig. hope it helps. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
storm Dec 27th, 03, 4:46 PM fdyfo i sent you an e mail thanks russ

ACLineman Dec 28th, 03, 7:20 PM Storm, What part of Jersey are you from???
storm Dec 30th, 03, 7:55 PM south jersey by fort dix whats up?
ACLineman Jan 1st, 04, 6:11 PM Just curious,
I'm near AC. I have a 69 that i'm doing the front disc swap on and also going to swap out my 10 bolt open rear for a 12 bolt posi this winter/spring :D
What year is your car?
storm Jan 1st, 04, 7:15 PM harry i got a 70 im in the process of putting disc on the front right now just got ball joints bushings etc. i got the kit from ground up caliper brackets backing plates and the spindles. maybe you can help me once i have the spindles on how is the control arms or outer tie rods go on?? i been trying to get a picture of the set up anybody have one??also how hard to remove the upper and the lower control arms ? i need to sand blast them. did you get the front disc set up yet? thanks russ
pistnpants Jan 2nd, 04, 10:26 AM Russ,
My set up came from a donor 71 Monte. I have not installed it yet though.
I did however install all new bushings, including, control arm bushings, upper and lower ball joints,BB coils springs before I dropped in the 396.
Hind sight being 20/20 I guess I should of searched for the front disc's before and installed them while I did all that other stuff..... graemlins/clonk.gif Talk about double your work. I didn't care at the time, I just wanted the 327 out and the L-78 IN !!!!
The A-arms weren't TOO bad getting off the car but getting the bushing out and back in were a PITA !!
Need a big vise and an air chisel/driver is a big help.Sandblast? Depends what your after, if your asking if you need to for assembly/disassembly you don't need to sandblast it. If you want to por-15 or paint it sure why not......
I would imagine the tie rod ends go on like any other. I don't know the ground up kit, but can't see why there would be to much difference with that.
Do you plan on using power brakes???
pistnpants Jan 2nd, 04, 10:29 AM Sorry,
By the way this is AClineman @ work.
Different screen name than at home.
storm Jan 3rd, 04, 9:32 AM a/c lineman wanted to sandblast control arms to make them look good 30 years of nothing being done to them they need some attention. i think i got the front brake assembly figure out yes its going to be power brakes. now to por 15 or not to por 15 new spindles backing plate caliper brackets eastwood chassie black them or por 15 or something else?? anymore big blocks? i still need an engine.
ACLineman Jan 3rd, 04, 2:15 PM Hmmm sounds good.
Sandblasting brings'em up REALLY nice and gives the paint something to stick to.
No more big blocks sorry to say. This one I found was a Fluke.Believe it or not I went to a yard sale about three blocks from my house last year and I saw the engine, with crank, rods, and pistons, still assembiled, sitting on an engine stand and asked the guy what it was from.
He told me the story of how it was his old engine from pulled 15 years ago from his 69 Chevelle SS 396/375 Hp and he now lived in Fla, but had to come back to Jersey because his father had passed away and they needed to clean out the house and garage to sell the place.
He said someone offered him 200 bucks earlier that morning and he passed on that.I real quick ran home, to check the numbers and flew back as fast as I could to make him an offer.
I offered him 350 to which he him hauled around and finally said he "couldn't take it back to Fla on the plane with him and it was getting late".
He threw in the engine ,engine stand,BB radiator,a newly re-built Th 400 (that had been sitting for 15 years),four 14" beauty rings, 3 sets of BB heads, AND A MINI BIKE my kid was looking at !!!!!!!!
STEAL OF ....I mean DEAL OF the century !!!! graemlins/hurray.gif
I rebuilt the engine(original bore) and now that, and the transmission (which I did nothing to except change the filter and fluid) is in my car and runs FANTASTIC !!!
Sorry for being so long winded, but thought you would like to know that those garage sale sometimes hold NICE finds.....
Anyway I still have that 327 if you interested. I think the numbers come back to a 64 or 65 265 Hp
Nice running engine, but I had to swap it because I couldn't pass on the year matching L-78 :D
Harry
