Well I went and picked up my rear control arms from the shop where they pressed in the new polygrahite bushings and noticed that I think they put one arm in the wrong way. Can someone please confirm this. Are the bushings supposed to go from the inside of the car towards the outside on both sides?? I didnt take good enough pictures when I took them apart.

It has been a couple of years since I have done this job, but I remember that the bushings have a stepped outside diameter and the arms have different holes sizes. I think that you cannot put them in backwards; they just will not fit.

Anyone else????? Maybe I should re-phrase that. Do the flanged side of the bushings face the middle of the car on both left and right control arms ???

Ok got the anwser from a guy I know who has original 67SS and 70SS. He took a look under his cars and said that the bushing flanges are on the inside (towards the diff). So my hunch about the bushing being installed incorrectly was correct graemlins/thumbsup.gif

One arm is in wrong?? You can't change the direction the bushing are pressed into the arms. They only install one way. You also can't swap the arm end for end because of the swaybar mounting holes. So, in your case there really is no way to put just one arm in backwards.

If you didn't have the swaybar then it's possible because the arms can be swapped end for end.

I've just started to remove mine, 71 Chevelle, and the bushings only go into the arms one way. My replacement arms are on the bench ready to go in.

I just looked at my arms and the flange side of the bushing was to the passenger side on both arms. I have the frame apart now but this was how they were from the factory.

Do you have the flat kind of like shim bushings that go in between the arm and the mount? They come with the Energy suspension units and really help to firm up the side to side play.Put them in if you got them..

Keep in mind that there is only one part number for the boxed (F41) rear lower control arms and the bushings can only be installed one way so the flange on the bushings will be towards the outside on the driver's side and the inside on the passenger side. Yours are correct!

Thanks Dave, thats what I needed to hear graemlins/hurray.gif . Thats weird than, how did my chevelle buddy have both of his cars with the flange on the inside?? Oh well, and yes wagon dad I do have those shims that you are talking about, actually one is on the box in the above picture. Im sure those shims are gonna help with any play, they seem really frickin hard. Well thanks again, now I can finally bolt this puppy up.
