: DO I NEED POLY BUSHINGS?
Robert G Apr 12th, 04, 11:08 PM I'M removing my rear end and installing a 8.2 posi
rear, i replaced the bushings in the rear end with stock rubber, i will be rebuilding the control arms with new bushings and i will be boxing the lower arms. my ? is i have never
had the car on the road yet so i don't know if i will have wheel hop so i was wondering if i need to install poly bushing in the control arms?
i have a mild 454, th400 kyb shocks and stock control are braces (f41) and i will be adding a set of NO HOP BARS and stock springs all this is on a 70 chevelle
Dcairns560 Apr 12th, 04, 11:30 PM These cars wheel hop pretty easily so poly bushings are a good idea. Not to mention I think they will last alot longer than the stock rubber ones.
70Chevelle 350 Apr 13th, 04, 4:26 PM The poly's are good for handling, however do translate all road imperfections to the interrior of the car. It really depends on what you are looking for. Performance (polys) or a smooth ride (rubber).
Robert G Apr 13th, 04, 4:34 PM well i want a good ride, but my main thing is i don't want wheel hop,and fron what it sounds like installing the bushing sound likea pain in the A@@ i don't want to do the twice. now if the no hop bars that i will be putting in will
stop the wheel hop and the rubber bushing gives me a good smooth ride then that would be just fine , but i think this going to be one of them wait and see what happens deal unless someone out
there has first hand info. to pass on smile.gif
Big James 4XL Apr 13th, 04, 5:18 PM Maybe it's just me but the only time I ever had any wheel hop with a Chevelle/elky was when I had bad control arm bushings and bad shocks.
onebadd66 Apr 13th, 04, 5:46 PM I would put in the poly bushings first and see if that helps before I go the no-hop route. You have decent shocksW/the f-1 set-up.I'm just not a big fan of those no hop bars.Theres so much more you can do with-out them.Just MHO and expieriance.
(or how ever the heck you spell it) :D

Robert G Apr 13th, 04, 6:42 PM YA i got it tore down and i just painted up the rear,(POR 15) i'm going to box the lowers this week ,as far as the NO HOP BARS go i was thinking of things to come ,i would like to add some SSM lift bars BUT .i'm thinking on a buget and must get the parts i need to roll this summer
I will going out to Woodstock IL. this weekend for A swap meet maybe i'll find a set
TronDD Apr 13th, 04, 7:12 PM Supposedly, wheel hop is a result of incorrect suspension geometry. Poly bushings are just a bandaid for wheel hop. No-hop bars or SSM bars actually correct the geometry. With the no-hop bars, you shouldn't need poly bushings.

Dropzilla Apr 14th, 04, 6:34 PM POLY ! You will hook corners better. Body lean is reduced. Better handling for sure. If you are driving your car everyday for hous upon hours at a time. Thats when you need rubber. Do it once do it right.
Robert G Apr 14th, 04, 6:40 PM THANKS , I looked in to it and I'm going with POLY
one of the TEAM CHEVELLE members hooked me up with a good deal on a set for my control arms
but I'm going with rubber on the rear end bushings
i was reading that was the best rout to go for a street set up (no binding of the uppers)
71chevy0192 Apr 14th, 04, 11:42 PM Robert G - Don't mean to change the subject...but where in IL do you live? I'm about 15 min from woodstock. Just curious....given that you clearly live right around here. That's cool if you don't want to say.....I'm just wondering if I may have seen you cruising around or anything before. Good luck with whatever setup you use. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Robert G Apr 15th, 04, 4:16 PM Well i stay out in Aurora IL. that about 40 or so miles south of ya,but I go up that way for car show/swap meets .I'm still a few months befor i will be on the road with my 70 chevelle but when i do get it going i will be heading that way
