: tall spindles & track width change...

Those that have installed the tall spindles on their Chevelles, did the wheel move in or out (changing the track width)?

I already know it will lower the car slightly...

I am getting ready to buy new wheels, and eventually I will do the tall spindles (probably in the next few months)... I want the wheels to work with both setups...

I just want to determine how much to change the BS (basing my order on 69-72 disc spindles)...

Thanks...

It is definitely wider. The wheels will be closer to the fender. I have before and after measurements at home and will try to get them for you.

check out www.speedtech-performance.com (http://www.speedtech-performance.com) they are coming out with a taller spindle that I believe is based on the factory two piece instead of the
factory b body with the intergrated steering arm.
should be ready about june from what they told me last week.

Anyone know by how much it widens it out? I am doing the tall spindle swap shortly and getting new rims so it would be nice to figure out the proper backspace for the fronts.

Thats exactly what I am trying to figure...

1866Malibu:
I checked out the Speedtech website, but they only listed the spindle for the Camaros (Not sure if its the same). I tried to email them, but the email got kicked back several times...

I believe the track change is +5/8" per side.

Baer used to have the info on their website somewhere, I haven't been able to find it and confirm but I'm fairly certain 5/8" per side is the correct amount.

ok I rechecked the carcraft september 01 article on disc brake swap and they state the track width
increases 1.5". they found that a 15 x 7 with 4.5" back space worked.

You can narrow up the track width by using drum hubs b/c the "Joe" is about the 5/8" that has been mentioned per side vs the two piece hubs or reworked '69 rotor/hubs less rotor.

I've always read/heard that it was 3/4" increase in track width.

At least we all agree that it increases graemlins/clonk.gif

I guess we could measure if someone out there is doing the swap soon. Maybe use the outside of the frame as our datum (point of reference).
