: New Disc Brakes: Power or non-power??

I'm ready to buy and aftermarket disc brake conversion kit for my 66' coupe. BUT, has anyone bought the NON-POWER kit and how did you like it? A guy told me that non-power disc are harder to stop the car than my current drum brakes?? I can't hardly believe that.

I don't have enough vacuum for power and can't afford a vacuum booster. I had a 65' Vette with four wheel disc and no power and it stopped fine.

Any opinions on this issue? Should I stay with my drum brakes or upgrade to non-power disc? Power brakes are out of the question.

Thanks

How can you afford a change over kit but not a few more dollars to get a booster? As for the lack of vacuum problem, if you can't get 18" off that old motor, you'll have to buy an electric add on vacuum pump.

Disc brakes require 1000 psi to work 'properly' so not having a booster is going to make it very hard to stop. Also does the change over kit have the valve(s) to do a proper change over?

I suggest keeping with your drums until you can afford or are willing to go all the way. Check with some of the other threads around here and you'll see what a chore it can be.

Tod, i put the non power disc on my 67 a few years back, true it takes more pressure on the pedal than power but not that much. I like the non power disc myself better than the power, car stops quite easily with non power disc.
