: Laptop power and flying
Barcochris Jul 28th, 09, 4:45 PM Guys, I have a Dell inspirion 1721 laptop. I am taking a trip to Germany next motnh and would like to take it for my kids to watch movies. What do I need to get to plug it in on the airplane, and what the heck do you plug them into?
any help would be great.
cessnarob Jul 28th, 09, 4:48 PM I never knew you could plug a laptop in on a plane? I usually take a small screen 10" dvd player and enough batteries and ear phones..:D
dave_silva Jul 28th, 09, 4:53 PM Most international flights I have been on dont have power, I do sit in coach, maybe they have them in first class. I have two batteries and I can get a few hours worth of movies.
Barcochris Jul 28th, 09, 5:27 PM I guess I will have to look for another battery
fishhead Jul 28th, 09, 5:50 PM Going back and forth to war zones so freaking much I have seen my share of airplanes...
When I did baggage detail I was able to sit in first class...there was a power adapter there that I could have used...this was ONLY on one plane...
International flights...if I figure it out its probably around 10, thats way to many times taking that long a55 trip...
There is a good selection of movies that you can select from and watch on the tv on the seat back in front of you...
Chevelle_Nut Jul 28th, 09, 6:01 PM I never have enough room on the airplane to even type on my laptop.
Chevello Jul 28th, 09, 6:05 PM Just make sure that you aren't roaming if you download the movies.

Beaux Jul 28th, 09, 6:10 PM Bear with me, I have a unique and uncommon idea.
Give your kids books and let them see how english works outside of the text messaging world. You can put on sponge bob for your kids but then look around you and I bet you see an Indian kid reading. He'll be the one taking your kids job but then again, maybe they can text message him when it happens to verify what he ordered for lunch. Give them a book on Germany, history, language, etc. Learn em something other than how to veg out and watch transformers. Teach them about socialism and then show them when you land. Something, anything other than letting a DVD suck the intelligence straight out of their body. Give them a movie to watch on WWII and watch it with them. I dont know, just a thought. Not trying to knock you or be a jerk. I just have met kids and the more I meet the more I move towards being thankful that I wont be around in 40 years to see what happens here. We're going to have to figure out something lower than a shortbus to put slow kids on if we arent careful because the shortbus will be for the "advanced" kids.

Actualy one of the Movies is Muzzy that is a language teaching program, I am not sure if you have taken many 10 plus hour trips with 6 year old or an 18 month old but books while a great idea and they do read them as well as doing art activites only hold their attention for so long. It would be nice to be able to give them a break as well as us. But I will keep your WWII movie idea on the back burner, I am sure my daughter will love it at 18 months

BillsCamino Sep 2nd, 09, 9:11 AM I fly a lot...in business/first class mostly. More often than not there is an AC supply on the side/front of the armrest for charging a phone or powering my netbook.
At least on the Airline I use...;)
