From the sounds of the Saginaw 3 speed in my car makes when in first and second gears it's time for a rebuild or to find a 4 speed. Not knowing what the spline count is on the input and output shaft which munice or saginaw 4 speeds would match? Are they the same or are centain years the same?

I don't think the # of splines on the input shaft would matter as long as the clutch disc is a match. The output shaft would have to match your driveshaft yoke, or require the proper yoke to work. Can't find specs on a 72 3-speed other than gear ratios but from what I understand, all 26 spline inputs came with 32 spline output shafts and all 10 spline inputs came with 27 spline output shafts.

If I read my parts book correctly, the 3-speed and 4-speed front yokes are different in 72. What is the difference? :confused: Dunno...But it's something to consider as well.
