How do you seperate the shaft from the arm to replace the bushings ?

You have to pound out the bushings from the control arm first the shaft is centerd in the bushings. The shaft may be frozen in the bushings, and that is where you will need to be creative.

better yet use a drill a little less then the thickness of the rubber and drill around the bushing then just tap out the sleeve.

You have to "walk the bushings out" of the arm.

I think the "car craft" web site has a "step-by-step" on bushing removal with pictures.

Here it is:

Just use the page numbers at the bottom to move forward or backward thru the article.

I bought the C-Clamp tool at Harbor freight for ~$30. I have used and a couple guys in my club have used it. But you can get it from AutoZone for free.

I agree with the torch idea. Have done that many times and works great. Just make sure you have someplace where you don't have to worry about fire. That rubber will really burn!! And smoke!!
