My 1970 chevelle has manual 4 whl drum brakes, the pedal is hard. I just bought a new master cylinder it has one bolt in the center holding on the cap. The one on the car has two domes with two spring clips. which one is correct and will a new mc solve my problem?
thanks!!!!

I don't think that a bolted cap master cyl. is correct for your year. By 1970 most chevy's used bails to hold the cap on.
Also a hard pedal is not consistant with a bad
master cyl. If you give us more info on the problem maybe we can help.

I just purchased the car. There is little or no pedal, the mc is full of fluid. It doesn't seem to build any presure.
I purchased the mc at advance and we checked twice this is the one they show. I agree with the wrong mc. I just looked it up on thier web site, the one pictured uses clips not a bolt. I am so confuseddddd!!!!! The car will stop but you need a mile to stop at 10 mph

Have you had the wheels off to check the brakes?
If the car sat for a long time it may have become airbound. have you tried bleeding the brakes? If the shoes are OK adjust them up and bleed them before replacing the master cyl. You may find you don't need the M.C. but even if you do this will make the install go easier.

Thanks, I haven't inspected each wheel as yet. I think since I have to pull it down to inspect it why not just rebuild the whole system. Then I will know what I have, not really that big a job.
