: TH400 transmission question

I have a 1970 Chevelle with a 350 engine and 350 transmission.

I found a 400 transmission. On the tag it says:

459

73 CJ 63107

It has a very short tail housing. Maybe 4 or 5 inches.

Is it a good transmission type to use behind a 454 engine?

OR, will my 350 transmission handle very mild street driving?

What additional housing or torque converter will I need to bolt a 454 to my 350 transmission?

Thank you...

That 400 is from a 1973 454 V8 Series 10, 20, 30.
It should have a threaded output shaft where the yoke bolt's on.
Your TH350 will handle more than your throwing at it and can be upgraded for future use.
TH350 & 400 use the same convertor.

Will a 454 engine bolt right to my existing TH350?

If so,
What is so special about the 400?

If you have the proper flexplate the 454 will bolt right up to the 350. The 400 is special due to its very heavy duty components that are capable of handling 500-600 HP in its stock form. A 400 built with extreme duty aftermarket components can be built to easily handle over 1000 HP. That's what is so special about them.

Oh good...
One thing at a time.
I will get the engine in.

Where do I get the right flex plate?

You have been a great help...

Make sure you get the correct flex plate and bolt it to the engine before putting the engine in.

Something else to consider;ratio in low for a 350 is 2.52;400 is 2.48.Not much numericial but makes a different at launch if racing is in your plans.Don't really notice it on the street.
