This is in the tall spindle range of swaps. Everything bolts up EXCEPT the lower ball joint. You need to get a lower ball joint for the Cutlass, and have the base machined to fit the stock lower arm. The upper for the Cutlass should fit on the upper arm with out a hitch.

Issues: You might as well get the offset upper control arm shafts to reduce the extra shims you will need to align it.

Some people go with the tubular upper arms, but it is NOT necessary. Major factor there is cost.

Do a search on "tall spindle".

You have to mount them backwards. They are stamped "engine" side, which you flip to make "engine" face away.

The easiest way is to buy 1 stock 68 Chevelle ball joint for reference (keep the reciept as you will return it), and buy 2 new ball joints for the Cutlass.

You basicallly want the stock base diameter of the Chevelle joint cut onto the Cutlass joints. You need a caliper to get the measurement. Just give the 3 joints to the machine shop.

The final measurement of the boss of the joint where it presses into the arm should be 2.010".

Dennis,
The last 2 Tall swaps I helped with found that 2.010" left the ball joint a tad loose. I provided the ball joints, and they were dead on 2.010" and measured exactly like the stock unit I used as a reference.

Now that could be the way we used the ball joint press to press them in, or maybe the lower arm hole where the bushing goes, was deformed during removal. It's a 30 year old arm. We tack welded them.

The next set I do (my own car) I think I will have my machinist remove a few tho' kess.

I have seen "probem solver" ball joints listed. What is thier measurement?

Not exactly sure what you are asking but it sounds like you want to know if the down side to the tall spindle swap is worth the trade off for the adavantages. If that is your question the answer is no.
