Besides this site, where can I look for cars for sale that aren't all dealers cars? I'm looking to spend around 30K. I'd like a real '70 SS, doesn't have to be numbers matching but I don't want a clone. Thanks in advance.

Also, I feel that there is always wiggle room when buying a car. What's an average percentage do you think? 10 percent? A 40K car could be had for 36K?
I emailed a guy who was asking 26K for his car and asked him his best price and he said 26K. I feel that is really cocky and doesn't seem to care to move the car or not.

Not really.

When I sold my Camaro it was probably worth close to 30,000. I needed to sell it and wanted 25,000 which is what I listed it for at the time. No more no less. I sold it for what I wanted and wouldn't have taken a dime less.

he might not want to move the car...at under 26k. look i sell a couple cars a year, and you'd be surprised how many idiots knock on my door expecting me to let them tow a car for free.

yes it's a hard market right now, but that doesn't mean people want to take a beating. now if you saw the car, and it wasn't worth 26k, then i'm on your side, but if you want to throw #'s just to throw #'s, that's a tough road.

you have 30k, that's plenty of budget to find what you are looking for, and your sure to get a very nice car in this market.

i have a truck for sale right now, and if one more person offers me 2500.00 for it, i'll burn it to the ground and collect the insurance.

nobody wants to get thier butts kicked, but a lot of people are trying to take advantage of the market. next time somebody says no to an offer, think about the car, is it really worth less than the other cars you've seen, or are you just throwing a number? if it's worth 26k, and it's a really nice car fitting into the parimeters you've set, you might be letting an oppritunity get past you.

i'm not saying you can't negotiate, i do, but i have let some cars get by me, because of my stubborness. i've changed that over the years, and even paid full asking price for a car a few years back, it was that nice, and the guy was already taking a beating on the car, so i ponied up the $, and was very happy while i had that ride.

about a year ago, i had a guy give me more than i was asking, he said i was honest and the car was in better shape than described and threw me an extra $100, i've had that happen twice now, once for $50, and once for $100.

i'm just saying, you are in the driver seat, hang in there, and at 30k, you should have a pretty spectacular car very soon....

I'd like a "real" '70 SS...

Doesn't have to be numbers matching...

Mike, to me a "real" '70 SS would imply a '70 SS with its "real" numbers matching engine that it left the factory with...not a '70 Chevelle with a crate or pickup truck motor.

Having said that, there is a "real" '70 Chevelle SS 396 (http://www.cars-on-line.com/37852.html) for sale on "Cars On Line" with its numbers matching 396 engine.

The car is located in Massachusetts and is listed as rust free with excellent frame, floors, and body, and, with an asking price of $34,000 (which I'm sure is negotiable), it's in your price range.

Regards,
-Greg

I know many may scoff at eBay, but that's where I picked up my 69 and it's as clean as any car I've seen at shows in AC or Carlisle. I look at eBay as a nothing more than a media for advertising,,if I like what I see then I go look at it. This car was only a 100 miles away, but I never would have heard about it if it wasn't on a auction.

Local car shows are also a good way to network and lean what's out there that maybe for sale.

As far as negotiating,, this car it was so clean, I offered him $500 over his reserve to end the auction. I too have let a few get away by trying to squeeze too hard on the price. Good Luck !

I still like looking at the hardcopy of Hemmings that most public libraries carry so you can look at it for free. A lot of old timers or computer avoiders still advertise their cars there. Hotrod hotline also gets some decent stuff too.

anyone that asks me about a price without looking at the car gets the same answer, or I raise the price :)

as stated above there are a LOT of low ballers trolling that have no interest in the car, only interest in the price to do flips

I have no patience for those people

YMMV, FWIW, etc
