Hi I recently came accross a chevelle i'm going to purchase.
I looked up the vin and its came out clean.
What confuses me, it says its a 67 Chevelle Malibu but on the
engine specs it says V8. I thought the only chevelles that
came out with V8's were the super sports? Is this correct?
I could of swore that the 67 Chevelle Malibu was a 6 cylinder car.
The chevelle that i'm going to purchase has a V8 in it. I'm
not sure what V8 it is. It might be the original or aftermarket.

The Super Sports were 396's, while the base 300 and Malibu could have been either a L6 or V8.

Many, many '67 Malibu were SMALL block V8's.
The BIG Block were SS models and Elkys only in that year.

So then it must be a small block then. I'll have to take a closer look once I get it to check if its the original engine. So if it is the original it must be a 300.

David it could be a 283 or 327....the 300 mentioned above is a series or model of Malibu per say.

Dave: Many, if not most of the Malibu's had either a 283 (likely 195 H.P.) or a 327 (275 H.P.) V-8. There is a casting number on the back of the engine block, driver side of the distributor near where the transmission bolts up, that will give you the basic engine information. You might have to remove the kick down linkage to read it. You'll need to look it up either in a book or on line (Google Chevrolet engine numbers and you'll find it). This number will tell you what basic engine you have (year range, what it likely came from). There is also a seriel and complete information number stamped on the front pad of the block...just ahead of the right side cylinder head where the head bolts to the block. Clean this area off and read that number. That will translate to more specific information about the motor (transmission it was attached to, specific vehicle it came from, carburator that was on it, horse power). If this checks out to your Malibu you have a numbers matching car! If not someone has swapped the motor at some point. Guys on this site can be of help if you need more info. Good luck.

My first 67 Malibu was a V8 283ci. Only had 30,000 miles on it and I picked it up for $750 but that was back in 78. Wish I had never let my friend drive it and total it.
