Hello,

Checking if anyone can tell me what the value is of a 68 Chevelle with L79 option 327/325hp car is worth? 4 speed with 12 bolt posi. Seller says it's numbers matching (not sure if he has documentation or not).

Car is Drk blue with blk vinyl top. He had the heads redone recently. Interior is in good shape but needs some cleaning and minor parts. Body is in decent shape, but needs quarters, trunk floor and floorboards replaced to make very nice. Said he drives it regularly and goes to cruise nights, but to be perfect, will need some work. He replaced the clutch and linkages, serviced the rear end and some other minor things. He's asking $10500 but wants to get rid of it because his girlfriend wants to settle down. I told him Im looking for something more in the $9000 range and he said come look at the car and he'll consider it.

What is a car like this worth once it's finished, depending if it actually is #'s matching and has paperwork? Is $9000 too much for something in this condition?

Thanks for the help!! Jason

Well, a lot hinges on whether it's truly a numbers matching car on the engine and transmission and if the rear end checks out to appear to be the original. Documentation sure would help the cause.

A completely and accurately restored '68 L79 car with documentation and original drivetrain could probably pull in $50,000, maybe a somewhat less in today's softer market. When the market was hot, I've seen them go for even more.
