depley Jul 22nd, 09, 11:04 AM no where close to what it sold for at Barrett Jackson
they have some cool cars at that auction though.
A couple of Ed "big Daddy" Roth creations which to me would be way cool to own, the Alexander Brothers, 1964 Dodge, Deora winner of the 1967 Riddler Award. Just to name a couple.
DaleM Jul 22nd, 09, 2:45 PM Agree with DeWayne. Sold for $1,150,000 ($1,265,000 w/buyer's premium) at BJ in 2006. I doubt it'll bring anywhere near that much.
Looks like some neat item going across the block:...
Big John Mazmanian's 61 B/MP Corvette
Ray Fahrner's Boothill Express
...and several early hot rod era hods and customs.
animal69 Jul 22nd, 09, 3:09 PM I bet the bidding doesn't go over $750K.
EdCarpenter Jul 22nd, 09, 7:03 PM who restored the car? Dash shot looks a little cheesy.
furball8994 Jul 22nd, 09, 7:16 PM who restored the car? Dash shot looks a little cheesy.
Exterior lettering looks wrong as well. (From the vintage shots I've seen)
Vintage.

Poor excuse at a Race car restore. Wrong color, wrong lettering, Wrong font.

mr 4 speed Jul 22nd, 09, 10:43 PM just noticed it has the incorrect top post battery and a repro upper alternator bracket, which is totally incorrect for 1970
The lettering by the way,is either some kind of "kling on" or magnet deal...they are not painted on and can be installed or removed with ease.
Too bad the people that buy these cars for that kind of money can't keep 'em.
As Steve McQueen said in that movie a Bridge too far..."seemed like a good idea at the time."
..and its offered at no reserve
...I have always been a huge fan of this car and its history...too bad they couldn't get the model made.
Great website thats all about this car:http://community-2.webtv.net/musclecarkid/1970ChevelleSuper/
Don_Lightfoot Jul 22nd, 09, 11:18 PM I am also a huge fan of this car, just love it. Wish I had the bucks. There was another thread a month or so ago about it with quite a few guesstimates as to possible price.
BTW Chris, was Steve McQueen in the movie "A Bridge Too Far" ;) ;)
Luis Jul 23rd, 09, 7:05 AM I bet the bidding doesn't go over $750K.
475K in my opinion.
1badss396 Jul 23rd, 09, 7:58 AM BTW Chris, was Steve McQueen in the movie "A Bridge Too Far" ;) ;)
The move was The Magnificent Seven:D
onovakind67 Jul 23rd, 09, 8:11 AM Is this supposed to be restored to quasi-showroom condition with some decals? Roll bar removed, engine back to stock, etc?
mr 4 speed Jul 23rd, 09, 8:38 AM The move was The Magnificent Seven:D
my bad :clonk: :D
czeto Jul 23rd, 09, 1:20 PM I ran against this car many times at Englishtown (and other tracks) when I had a SS/HA Camaro. I agree with Scott, something just does not look right with the lettering.
1968MotionL88 Jul 23rd, 09, 2:07 PM Someone that knew this car told me they changed the original 12 bolt to a 67 12 bolt back then for tire clearance.Don't know if its true but this guy was big into Chevelles back then and knew these guys. This guy lived in Scotch Plains NJ not far from T/K on Rt22 in Greenbrook.
Bunz-T Jul 23rd, 09, 2:32 PM Unless you have been under house arrest , locked inside a building with no access to the outside world being molested by sex starved 20 year olds.......kinda like Brad now......you will have to agree the entire buying climate for collector cars has changed. This car and so many like it represented so many different things in the hobby, but it also represented something else. It sold in a zone that seperated the rich from the wanna be's. So many times it is not what an item is but that it cannot be owned by but a select few.
As we have seen with so many cars that sold for this kind of money several years ago it is not uncommon to see them fail to get to 50% of the previous price. It only takes two bidders to achieve ridiculous results but I would think that if this car changes hands it will be because the owner needs the money or does not care what it cost originally. I would think if it reached 50% of the last price paid it would have gotten along quite well.
barnez Jul 23rd, 09, 2:56 PM i guess i don't understand why the lettering/graphics aren't 100% perfect???
nitrousss Jul 23rd, 09, 7:23 PM who restored the car? Dash shot looks a little cheesy. Supposedly Ray Allen restored the car back for the street before putting up for auction on BJ.
DaleM Jul 23rd, 09, 11:23 PM Was Ray Allen the owner and had it restored or was he just 'directly involved' as this page (http://www.detoursdiecast.com/scrayallen.html) implies? According to this page (http://www.dragracecentral.com/drcstory.asp?ID=110765), the car was still titled to Truppi/Kling when sold at BJ in 2006.
I know he was the driver of the car, but did he have a personal stake in its ownership at any time? It wouldn't appear so if it was if it was still titled to Truppi/Kling.
joe58 Aug 2nd, 09, 8:55 AM on this old race footage youtube vid it looks like the Truppi/Kling LS6 Chevelle at about the 3 min mark
not sure if it is it

Offroadr Aug 4th, 09, 3:22 PM So I may be clueless here but why sell it if its expected to bring 50-75% of what it went for at BJ? Current owner has money to burn?
DaleM Aug 4th, 09, 3:26 PM If I remember the buyer correctly, he does. Probably figure some way to take a tax loss.
MUSCLECARMAGMAN Aug 4th, 09, 3:37 PM Chip Gerst represented and had the car and finished the resto. Here's a link to some personal info on the TK cars from a neighbor.

Don_Lightfoot Aug 4th, 09, 5:49 PM Tim, I've been surfing a lot of the threads on this for the upcoming auction. Do you know if the guy selling it now was the guy that bought it at BJ? Thanks.
MUSCLECARMAGMAN Aug 4th, 09, 5:54 PM Yes Don he is selling it.I haven't looked on the site but I think he is offering more than just the LS6 car.
Don_Lightfoot Aug 4th, 09, 7:27 PM Thanks Tim. I didn't know if he had sold it before now. That collection is in all the mags right now, he has a bunch of hot cars.
So I guess he bought the Allen car just for that "one trip down the track"
musclecarkid Sep 27th, 09, 1:03 PM The Truppi-Kling LS6 Chevelle sold for $240,000 on Sat Sept 26 at the RM "Icons of Speed and Style".
