Well a fellow forum member was switching rear axle covers so I bought this one off of his old axle. I think it is from a motion rear axle? but if someone could shed some light that would be cool? I thought it was an old Mr. Gasket one.

Anyways, It came all the way across the US and made it looking like this

It sat around for a bit because I didn't know what color I should paint it but I finally picked a hammertone paint that matched some front end parts on my car. I also scuffed the tops of the fins which kinda match the valve covers I have on it as well.

Here is how it turned out, should be installing it tomorrow.

I think you need to paint a bloodshot eyeball in that circle in the middle.

Ive got the exact same cover on my 71 camaro. I was at the local flea market and this lady had a box of car junk. In the bottom of all this crap, sits a finned diff cover! I threw it on craigslist for awhile, but nobody local was interested, I finally got around to installing a powertrax in my car, since I had the cover off anyway, I went and installed it. Does that one have the cast in V lip on the inside? jim

Yeah, it does actually!

Any clue what it's for?

Rear axles are foreign to me.

The "V" in the cover directs gear oil to the axle bearings.

I've seen them sell on ebay for as much as $125. I got one for $75. They were made by Cal Custom and Mr. Gasket.

I found some chrome allen head screws and washers at the home center to bolt mine on with. One of those small details that made it look even better.

Man I love the look of them. Yours looks good too Jim!

I got those bolts for like 2 bucks to throw in for now. I would like stainless steel versions of them but I have to monkey with the rear axle some more at a later date.

I love the look it really is neat under there.
