My brake light in my 72 came on and isnt going off. The brakes feel fine. What would make it come on and what should i check out?

brake light switch
It is a very simple switch activated by the brake pedal. You have to look up under the dash to see it. Possibly stuck "in". Cheap and easy to replace it this turns out to be the problem. If I recall, they screw in and out of a bracket to adjust to pedal position. Good luck.

doh....after re-reading I'm thinking by brake light you mean the light on the dash...
I think these are activated by a loss of pressure. Check fluid level in master and for leaks in system. In the 67 the dash brake light is hooked up to the distribution block.

Fluid levels are fine. I did have a situation a few months abck that the front resovoir was really low and the rear was overflowing when i opened it but no problems since.

I would check the condition of your brakes. I have had my brake light on when the rear brakes are worn enough that they need to be replaced. Still felt like I had good brakes, but they were ready to be replaced. graemlins/waving.gif

I just did a full break job 3,000 miles ago. I know the fronts are fine. Guess i need to check the rear.

Blaster,
That light is also on when the e-brake is set.Does the light come on when braking or is it on all the time?If it's on all the time, unplug the wire going to the e-brake pedal and see if it goes out.

It was the e-brake! Its not disengaging fully when its released. At least it wasnt anything big deal. Thanks
