I have a 70 malibu with rear coil springs. I am tired of the air shocks so I have decided to go to gas shocks, but I want a little rake in the rear end. I am pretty sure my coil springs are shot as they are original, does anyone know any tricks (if I was to get new springs) to add an inch or two to the height?

You're better off lowering the front. Raising the rear can cause issues will wheel hop and the pinion angle and such.

However, if you do want to raise the rear (it'll be easier) you can try the MOOG cargo springs or airbags.

Hey Tim, appreciate the suggestions. The only problem I have with lowering the front is that the header collectors will scrap the pavement. Experiencing that right now with the stock height. Although, the front coils are probably shot as they are orignial also. Maybe I should just put some 44 superswampers in the back. Good call on the pinion angle, I thought about that and I did not feel like setting a new angle on the axle.

You can't adjust the pinion angle without adjustable control arms. If raising the back throws your pinion angle off enough to give you problems, you're stuck.

Lowering springs are stiffer to prevent bottoming out. I have Hotchkis 1 inch drop springs with a big block and Dynomax headers. They've never hit the ground. I know other brand headers hang lower but you still might be able to pull it off.
