: RF Wheel won't turn...bad wheel bearing?

I posted last night on what I thought was a frozen caliper...turns out that's not the case. All of our brand new brake parts are fine, no problems.

When the wheel is bolted on the car, it is completely frozen and will not turn. When the wheel is off, the rotor turns freely, as it should all of the time. It's got new rotors, pads, inner and outer bearings...the whole deal. We did a complete resto on the front end of the car. I've done wheel bearings before and I'm pretty confident that these are done right, and they are definitely packed well. I even took it all apart tonight and put it back together only to have it continue to happen. The left side assembly works perfect (setup the same way as the right side obviously), it's the right side that is the problem. I'm thinking that the wheel bearing(s) may be defective? Both inner and outer spin fine when the rotor is off of the car. Maybe the cage on one of them is too loose? Help!!!!

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Swap the bearings from the working side and see if that works.

Does the right front have a 14" drum brake wheel on a disc brake? Swap the front wheels side to side and see if the problem follows the wheels

Wow! That's a possiblity that I never knew about or considered! I did rotate the tires around so that's very possible. I'll check on it tonight! Thanks!

Which one? the bearing swap or the wheel swap?

The wheel swap...I had no idea that the wheels might be different front to back on the car. I just assumed that all 4 were alike. The car had new tires on it when we got it. If swapping the wheels doesn't work, I'll be swaping bearings.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Found the problem...turns out that the new caliper brackets that we bought were the culprit. The right side one was rubbing, actually digging into the inside of the wheel. It was clearly a manufacturing flaw...the left side is fine and as soon as I put the old bracket on, the right side was fine too. $105 for caliper brackets that don't fit right  Thanks again for your help.

Mike,
IMO, you should have just got your old brackets replated.

Any reason why? Originality?

there not an item that goes bad, they just loose there plating.

could have had both Dust Shields & Caliper brackets done for $65 plus shipping would have saved you a couple dollars.

Well, they were all pitted and we actually found a guy who attempted to replate them...he did a decent job, but not perfect. So after that, we decided to buy new ones since we had heard that finding someone to do a good plating job was not easy. We didn't know about Mickey Hale at the time either (who we sent the booster and some other pieces to for plating about a month later, after we had already bought the new brackets). We already had the new ones so we didn't even think to send the old ones to Mickey. The place that we bought the brackets from is working with us though...so we'll probably get new ones from them. Live and learn I guess, I appreciate the suggestions. Thanks again.
