: Decent 1970 LS5/M22 driver
mr 4 speed Jul 18th, 09, 8:44 PM looks like a real nice car for the money:

..too bad it wasn't local for me...I would have already went and looked at it and probably bought it ;)
MEJ1990TM Jul 18th, 09, 8:53 PM Are the stripes really that hard to get right?
TonyZ Jul 18th, 09, 8:56 PM Would look sweet back in Blue with Ivory interior. Seller seems pretty honest in his description.
RixLS6 Jul 18th, 09, 8:58 PM Like you said, not bad for the money, but be aware that it couldn't be an LS5 as the build date is too early.
The 454 cars didn't start until December.

Did the LS5 and LS6's come out at the same time?
When my dad got the brochure for the 1970 Chevelle the only 454 that was listed was the LS5. And seeing as he was probably 8,000 miles from the nearest Chevy dealership he couldn't very well of found out about the LS6.
704EVER Jul 18th, 09, 9:11 PM I suspect this would be a nice car for someone who can do their own bodywork and paint. The car has good overall basics but it probably needs 2 doors and some attention in the rear wheel houses which can be very labor intensive before a repaint. For someone paying shop rate, it could get expensive. Overall it's a nice car but really needs to be looked at by anyone seriously interested.
Tod74 Jul 18th, 09, 10:21 PM Are those stripes the wider early 1970 version I have read about here? Or are they just wrong? I know they are wider than any I have ever seen.
Herb396 Jul 18th, 09, 10:40 PM $20K for a clone w/ rust bubbles all around, bondo that needed to be chisled, paint and interior showing it's age ,,all that and from Michigan to boot...I don't think so.

A home brewed LS5 ?
It's got a 1970 LS5 crate engine , the code on the pad at the front of the block is CE065976. The casting number is 3963512 with a casting date of H-20-9.

what do you suggest a 70 with a CE code 512 block,M22 trans and curb appeal good enough for a local cruise night is worth?
Chances are its probably started life as an L34 car.
IMHO and experience,it seems like a decent deal for a "driver" with what appears to be an honest descripton.Obviously an inspection will reveal all.
If you are going to tell me its a 10-12K car please point out something else to compare it to in the price range that has a 512 block and an M22

I'm sure I love our chevelles as much as anyone here ,,but for me I wouldn't pay $20 for a undocumented car w/ a vintage BB & 4 speed,, which still needs $10K in work (the whole Michigan thing alone just scares me). And unless you have a documented SS car, where is the real added value in the CE 512 block (with a unknown mechanical history)??
Personally I wouldn't touch it,,,chances are it's a honest descrption of a rust bucket that will probably cost alot of time and money. IMHO and experience there are better deals to be had for $20K.

So far, no one has shown any 454 Chevelles to be built before December of 69, BUT there were 454 Monte Carlos before the Chevelles as I have a buildsheet for an October built one from the Van Nuys plant.
RyanNilcea05 Jul 19th, 09, 8:16 AM My '70 Brochure also mentions only the LS5. My brochure was printed in what I believe was 8/69. Could that be why there's no mention on an LS6 option?

Sorta like the cowl seal .
704EVER Jul 19th, 09, 5:25 PM This car is awfully close to it's reserve, I believe for just another 1K, you could own it. I think it's a lot of car with all the right bells and whistles for any Team member who's handy in the body shop department. You don't find many like this for under 20K, clone or not. I'd buy this car myself if I didn't have another project waiting in the wings.
ulySSes Jul 19th, 09, 5:43 PM I inquired on it a while ago and ask for pictures of the rust. It was nothing nice.

Agreed, rust never looks pretty but it's something that can be eliminated by the right person with the time and know how. I still think this car has a lot of upside in the right hands.

I agree 110% and I am one of those people...just can't pull the trigger on something I can't see in person.Something about that bothers me :D
After working on some of the rust buckets that are up here in NE,this car would be a walk in the park...nothing I haven't seen before at least by some of the pictures the seller sent me
