Hey Guys,
I have a set of spindles for both brake configurations. Before I get dirty and start ripping both passenger sides apart I wanted to ask around for the solution. I have a bad disc spindle on my passenger side of my 70. :( I have a drum brake spindle for the same side. I want to know are they the same size? Can they be used for either application? Both spindles are from the 70-72 years from chevelles. My guess would be that they are the same and the only thing I'd have to do is swap out the dust shield and backing plate.

they are the same, but the drum spindle needs the upper boss machined down to match the disk spindle. It is the boss that the large bolt goes into at the top of the drum backing plate.

They are a little differant. Drum brake spindles are a little thicker at the top mounting hole (where the stud that holds the drum brake springs goes).

It is possible to machine the drum brake spindle down to exactly match a disc brake spindle. I don't know the exact measurement, though.

Tim.

Thanks Carlos for the information. I have already converted my chevelle to the disc brakes. When I decided to clean up the front end that's when I encountered a bad disc brake spindle.
