: 66 sd 396
chevyman_01 Jul 18th, 09, 12:04 PM My dad has had a 66 sd 396 put away in pieces since early 70s thinkiing of reassembling it but somebody stole his origanol mint door panels
does anyone have any suggestions where i could find some .
floyd66 Jul 18th, 09, 4:57 PM I don't know the answer to your question but it sounds like a great project.
Welcome to Team Chevelle
Joel, it sounds like a really worthwhile project. Only 120 Sport Deluxes had the 360-horse 396 in '66.
Your door panels were shared with the 1966 Lemans / GTO that year, while the seat upholstery was from a Chevelle Malibu or SS396. Off the top I'm thinking Legendary Interiors or Performance Years for the door panels.
Hellucallit Jul 20th, 09, 9:43 PM Thats sounds like a post my son will make in about 15 years.
chevyman_01 Jul 26th, 09, 1:17 PM we and my dad have talked about this and he seems to think that there is some difference between gto and beaumont door panels he has 2 cars both 360 horse 396 4 speed but one is just a shell i didnt realive how rare that is
chevyman_01 Jul 26th, 09, 1:39 PM sorry my spelling is bad lol
DaleM Jul 26th, 09, 3:08 PM Kind of hard to see but I believe these are original in a 66 Sport Deluxe...
chevyman_01 Jul 26th, 09, 10:27 PM so i would imagine that a tach would fit from a 66 gto also its missing from the car.
thanks for the info

Yes, I believe that the dash is GTO/Tempest, therefore so would the tach. I have my parts book if you need any numbers. Also I can take a picture of my 66 door panels if that is of any help?

The bad news is that I believe the panels are actually not the same as a GTO, but the same as the Tempest (which I suspect are not reproduced.) The good news is that either the GTO, or Chevelle panels will work, size wise (and no one would be the wiser...)
ak 67SD Aug 4th, 09, 1:26 PM Apparently the GTO panels are the closest, and you would need to put on the beaumont trim emblems on... SMS Auto Fabrics will probably reproduce the 66 beaumont door panels, but they are pricey...but you will get a perfect set of panels, probably worth the $$ to finish off a 66SD restoration! Others have had them reproduce panels for SD cars...

p.s. the tach for a 64-67 Beaumont is the 1964 GTO tach (available in repro).

z15cam Aug 12th, 09, 11:33 PM Man, a 66 Acadian 396 SD Wah!
Here's a very interesting article RE: Pontiac Trivia: http://www.empgmc.com/race/knafelfacts.htm
NOTE the 67 Acadian HT 427 Dixon (Tin Indian) Raced in B/Modified AHRA World Championship under the Knafel Racing Team and the Tempest 421 SD Wagons Sish!
A farmer on the next concession where I was brought up put a 427 in a 66 Acadian and ran it against Hemi's. The local Car Dealer was Chrysler/Dodge - Needless to say, everyone was on there feet when that Acadian ran.
