As far as I can tell the drum should slide off, but it won't. I have retracted the shoes. I have tried tapping it with a rubber mallet, heated the drum with a propane torch. I don't know the last time the drums were off the car. It sat for many years before I got it. thanks

If I recall, it comes off like rotor. Pop the dust cap and take the spindle nut off. To separate the hub and drum, I think you have to press the studs out.

According to the assembly manual, the drums front and rear are demountable and can be removed without removing the hub. I can get it loose enough to rock slightly, but cannot get it to move further. 67 Malibu, by the way.

You're sure the shoes are retracted all the way? You say it rocks, a little loose, but won't come off. The shoes not being retracted enough will cause that. There is a ring of rust around the outside edge where the shoes don't rub that will cause that. The other possibility is rust on the center of the hub, where the drum fits over it. Same deal, it won't fit over that. If it's the hub that it's binding on you can try to sand down some of the rust, not easy. Or just keep tapping the back edge of the drum, turn, tap, turn tap. Pull or pry on one side, smack the other side with a hammer. Sorry, no easy way out, takes time and effort.

It's off. soaked the hub with WD40 and let it sit for a couple of hours. Few more hits with the hammer and it was off. Thanks guys
