I am running the stock 37-ampere externally regulated charging system in my currently stock six cylinder ’67. I will soon have a pair of electric choked carbs, electric fuel pump, and conversion to HEI. Am I setting myself up for constantly discharging my battery?

I would like to maintain the stock look except for some selected hi-po goodies under the hood. Is it time to go for a bigger alternator and a solid state regulator hidden under the stock Delco regulator cover? Or should I wait to see if there is a problem first?

A pair of carbs of a 6 cyl???

IMO, yes. 37amp is the max output. Output is less at idle and slower speeds. That alternator could barly keep up with the stock stuff neverless with any add ons. Personally I would do a internally regulated 10si alternator if you want to keep the stock look.

Oh joy :(

I did a search on the alternator you suggested and it sounds good.
Here's a site that covers a number of aspects of that alternator: http://www.geocities.com/cantwait_forviolence/cj_alternator.html#wiring

Thanks for the response Greg.:beers:

PS, the twin carbs on my six are both small, each one having a primary and mechanical secondary. By spacing them apart, the result is better distribution to the cylinders of that long inline block. The cfm rating should be anywhere from 390 to 450 wide open, which should work well with my displacement and operating range. It's certainly better than the stock 160 cfm 1-barrel with a long run to the outer cylinders and a short run to the center ones.
