Whats the secret to loosening rusty 40 year old brake hose fittings. Ive soaked the front hose to hard line fittings in wd40 for almost a year. They still wont budge.

Try PB Blaster, much better than WD 40

Propane torch and WD or PB if you've got it.

I'd fess up and face the fact you're going to ruin the fitting, and need to replace the line.

Cut the hardline above the union, pull the retainer clip and remove the hose and wheel cylinder as an assembly.

It's not too difficult to hand bend a new line from a store-bought length of new tubing. Just go slow and don't kink it. The hard line is probably rusted (internally as well) and should be replaced anyway.

yea, your right. im off to the parts store to see what they have. Looks like all the fittings are pretty much the same. Im at least hoping I can save the junction block and the master cylinder.

We actually just got through doing this same thing this weekend...

Got lucky and one of them came off with a line wrench and a few "taps" with a 5-lb hammer. Not too bad.

The 2nd one was a bigger PITA. We finally cut the rubber hose, removed the hard line from the vehicle and put the thing in a vise and ended up slaughtering it. Fortunately, the vice securely held the metal fitting and allowed us to twist off the rubber hose and it's fitting.

Subsequently, I found that the hard line was cracked too and will need to be replaced, but getting it off the car made it a lot easier to work with!

When I replaced all my brake lines, I pretty much just cut off the bad fittings, since I'd strip them out anyway. I had a couple stuck in the metering block, I just cut the line about an inch from the block, and took the metering block out whe I cut them all. Then I was able to put it in a vice and use an 'easy out' on the fittings to get them out without damaging the metering block. That would probably work with the rear brake hose 'block' too.
