Pushed the car out of the garage to wash all the dust/overspary off the floorpan today ( engine not running yet) and I noticed that it will roll in any gear and even park. I know the linkage is fine and i can see it turning at the transmission shift lever. Its a newly rebuilt trans and ive never driven it before, but i could have sworn ive had it in park before and it would lockup as it should but i cant really remember now. The only thing that i can think of is when i installed the backdrive to the trans I kind of overtorqued the nut on the gear selector and it felt like i pushed the shift lever past the stop for park for a split second, It popped right back to where it should though and it all felt normal so i wasnt worried. and yes the driveshaft is in.

What should i look at? I really need some help here.

kinda depressed.... if its not one thing... its another:(

Hmm,
It's easy to install the park pawl bracket in the trans backwards, and it will "test" OK on the bench and seem like park is good but in a car it won't hold.

You could have bent the park linkage.

Don't sweat it, probably need to drop the pan to check it out, but if you need any parts I have plenty of TH400 linkage (or any other part you can imagine).

Thanks for the help Jake! I ended up fixing whatever wasnt working with a little violence lol. I just slamed the lever back and forth a couple times and all is well now. Plus i forgot in an automatic when its in Drive it will still roll.... I should take it easy on the beer this weekend!

im sure when i fill it with fluid it will cooperate with me.

Thanks again!
