After chasing this car for an agonizing month, I finally got this 1970 SS Chevelle. Neat thing is that I used to street race (over 20 years ago) with the guy that owned it, so have known the car for a long time. Have a build sheet, indicating paint code 55 Champagne gold, no stripes,no vinyl top, 4 speed, 3.55 12 bolt posi, and L-78. Originally sold at The City Chevrolet Co., in Baltimore.

Car was parked in the late '80's, and hasn't seen any road time nearly 20 years.

Home safely tucked in my messy garage.... Not very correct at this point, right out of the late 80's.... Cowl induction badging to be removed from the non-cowl hood, as many other changes on the way.

Thank you! Am going to scan the build sheet at some point soon, and post a copy (unless that's a bad idea feeding the cloners...).

Oooohhhh, not very correct under there. Original short block from what I can tell, but heads are ovals, wrong intake, Predator carb (yikes, remember them?). Have to do some sprucing up before I post under there....

thats OK if its not correct...I love these cars..wether they are factory correct or not.
Yup..I remember those Predator carbs..had a few of them over the years...and even sold one of them here on TC quite awhile ago.

Am curious about one thing. The hood that is on the car appears to be the factory hood, showing Champagne Gold under the black repaint. It does have holes that were filled in at the front, where hood pins were at one time. On the build sheet, though ripped, I see =ZL(can't see the 2 because of the rip). This means that the car was a cowl induction car, right? Can't wait to go home to see if someone patched over a flap door in the hood at some point, because it's not there now..... but, perplexing thing is that SS is specified for air cleaner, indicating the open element....

Great project car! Knowing some of the cars past history makes it even more special. I'll look forward to more pictures and updates as you post them.

Nice find, where did you street race in Maryland? I am from Rockville and used to race there.

Very nice and I agree about the more pics, and the not correct thing doesnt matter to me. I actually would prefer to see them the way they are/were used just as much as the way they were sold.

I too am interested about the Street Racing. My Elky has never left MD and was in the Balt. GB, Randalstown area during that timeframe. Do you recall seeing a 1970 Elky either Silver or Black? I am told it frequented Capitol Raceway through the 80's and was running 11.80's.

You probably shouldn't post the buildsheet. Others may disagree, but I feel the forgers shouldn't get any more ammo.

You mention about the buildsheet having ZL*, that might be ZL3 which is SS conversion, so your car probably wasn't originally a cowl induction car being that you have SS as the air cleaner code.

I'm actually going to pick it up today after finally getting a cut/polish. Just need to install a few final trim pieces, have my front right fender adjusted, have my side stripe put on, and I guess we can call it " done "....for now.

Rick, you are right. Didn't know about ZL3. Hood was definitely never cowl induction.

Bookmaker, your car looks great!

Used to street race way back when around Westminster. There was a shopping center that was a huge local cruise spot.
