cause the 400 is toast.

I got the car up on stands, and got the cover off, and I don't think the pan should be full of sparkly mud, and chunks.:noway:

Unfortunately, I handed the pan out to Tory, and by the time I finally crawled out, He'd cleaned it out? He don't clean nothing, but he cleaned that?

I'm gonna pull it tomorrow, try to get it down to Jim, see what it's gonna take to put it back together.:(

Bummer! My pan had a bunch of crap in it when I swapped the gaskets but I just cleaned it back out, threw the new gasket in and filter and she's been driving ever since

It don't bother me too much, as the trans is the only part of the car that hasn't been rebuilt. It's just as it came out of the Silverado, I got the 454 from, cept a shift kit.

Dave, its time it got rebuilt anyway. Why dont you just do it yourself? You said you want to get into rebuilding transmissions.

Ah, you needed an excuse to pull the motor anyway, may as well pull it with the tranny attached. TKOs don't have issues like you described.........I'm just sayin'

You mean with the motor IN it??

Dave

Ya, I guess I should specify that. I guess I can picture you sitting in your car, without a motor, making engine sounds, slobbering yourself, dreaming your car is as fast as mine.

OK, it's at Jim's. wasn't too bad, but it's been slipping for some time, as the clutches are worn, forward clutches were toast. Hard parts look good, just needs the 34 element upgrade. :D

I just need more money now.

I finally got the trans out of the motorhome today, been working on it for days. It's never been out so I was blazing rivets out of the crossmenber where bolts will be. Every bolt on the exhaust had to be cut because of a little safety spot weld at each location so the retaining nuts wouldn't come off. Then the stupid converter bolts didn't want to come loose.

But at least it's out and on the floor now.

Just didn't have time to remove the e-brake assembly on the back of the trans so hopefully I can get Roger to do that and drop it off at Jim's for me. I talked to him and he can have it ready for before I get back.

My guess is a heavy duty rebuild with a serious shift kit, 34 element sprag. No transbrake cause there still a modulator, and most reverse valvebodys are manual's which means they plug the modulator

Whatever you got for whatever you payed, you will be pleased!!! keep the secret. Jim built my P/G and it's one tough MF. He is also known in the NPSA crowd for his work.

Dave
Jul 20th, 09, 2:10 AM
I just told Jim what I do with it, he asked what my budget was, then did what he could, within that budget. He even did me right on a few parts.

It is just a heavy duty stock type rebuild. 34 sprag, high quality clutches, steels, that kinda stuff, and some other mods, that even he didn't really tell me about.;)

There was a VERY high dollar two speed aluminum something sitting there, all I know is that one gearset alone was 1500 from Coan. I think it was outta a 7 second something dragster.

And a pretty picture of a Monza on the wall.............:D

I will highly recommend Jim, and I haven't even got the trans in the car yet.

400's are stout transmission from the factory. When you upgrade to a 34 element sprag, and throw a nice shift in there you have a transmission you'll have a hard time breaking

Well, it runs, i took it around the block. I had to baby it, cause I remembered that the little floor jack was in the trunk, and I didn't wanna bash the 1/4 panels.

Seemed alittle off, but when I got home, I rechecked the fluid, and it was empty. Little Biotch drank a whole case, and wants some more.

I'll pick up another case tomorrow on the way home from work.
