Guys,

I'm looking to rid myself of a vibration that comes on around 45-50mph. I took out the driveshaft tonight, as I plan to get it checked for balancing, and while taking it out I noticed that one of the drums seems to hang up while the wheel was being turned, so I took both drums off and cleaned them thoroughly but one especially hangs up in one spot while being rotated - how much is acceptable? I do not notice any pulsing while applying brakes. I was going to bring them into work tomorrow to check with calipers.

I know there are several things that could be causing this vibration but figure checking the simple things first is the way to go.

Thanks very much.

You already answered part of your question.

As you apply your brakes you dont experience any pulsation.
I would think your brakes are good to go.

Check for missing balancing weights on the driveshaft and the rear drums. You will see an indication of a missing weight. Also check for out of bal wheels.

After that try disconecting the rear U joint and rotate your driveshaft 180*

Go from there!

How about an out of balance fan?

Does this vibration occur in neutral at 45 mph?

Does it occur at a certain rpm while in the driveway?

Its not engine rpm related. Ive had wheels out before it does not feel like that. If I'm cruising and head down a hill, the vibration gets stronger as the load comes of the drivetrain...then once load is re-applied, it improves.

There is some noticeable wear on the trans yoke, which makes be suspicious of it and the tailshaft bushing, which I just ordered a replacement for today. Process of elimination,,,,:)
