I just wanted to make people aware that I went thru the effort to make an aluminum template so I can plasma cut out the plates and I bought strips of 1" x 1/8" steel. so I'm putting a kit together for you do-it-yourself welders to beef up your front lower control arms. it includes 2 cut out plates and 2 strips 10" long. I hope this helps out some people because I have already made 5 sets of control arms complete with these and it works well. see my web page http://hometown.aol.com/smartasreality/page4.html these will put you way ahead of the fabrication process. $45 i cover the shipping. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif why did'nt someone do this already. i would have just bought it if i could have. thanks

You just keep coming up with more ideas to make our Chevelles better. Have you finished up that cowl induction with the special snorkel yet?

FO_FDYFO,

I checked your web site and the page was not there. I am interested in these pieces is there any way that you still have them or can provide information on them? Thanks
Tom

454,
that last link worked, but not the first two.

One question I have on the lower control arms kits and such...

When I have seen pictures (never have seen one live!) of lower control arms that have broken, it seems like all of them have basically cracked or broke in the area of the spring pocket. Seems like welding these brackets in that area might only weaken the 30+ year old metal?? Obviously I don't have any first-hand experience with an arm failing and certainly don't want to! But I was just curious...

Thanks a bunch for all the hard work and R&D for these new parts!

Bill C.

BC, thats not where they brake. they brake just behind the ball joint mount. not in the spring region wher it is being welded.

Ah, got it! Now I do recall seeing the opening around the ball joint area... for some reason I was thinking that was the spring pocket area!

When I get my front end apart again, I'll be getting a set of those plates!

Thanks again,
Bill C.
