Coppertop

Well the headache continues. I'd be done with this "little" project if I wasn't so busy playing detective.
Here's the scoop, '70 coupe, had plastic inner fenders, I've pulled them and am replacing them with repro steel ones.
The steel ones have a completely different design from the plastic ones where the dust shields mount above the a-arms.
How "high" up do I mount the dust shields? What contour do I follow???
Steel inner fender and dust shield:

Option 1: follow this contour? This doesn't allow much to staple into as the "face" is a very small area of metal....

Option 2: This seems to make more sense, more room to staple and the contour seems to allow for a nice fit, but is this too high up????

I think option 2 is the correct way, but since I don't use them due to the big header tubes I have on the car, I'm not sure. If you want to be certain what the factory correct way is, then you might want to look at engine compartment pics of factory stock Chevelles for sale on e-bay. They shouldn't be hard to find.

Option #2 is correct, but learn from my mistake.
Mount inner fender wells to core support and dash legs on fire wall and then tempary mark or fasten sheild on then remove from car to staple on. I did mine off the car the same way on each well and then assembled on car and found out the drivers side was perfect, but the passenger side shield should of been fanned out and moved down more.
Hind sight is 20/20 you know.

just think of that as the single flaw in your masterpiece.. and it is the kind of thing that makes it look more like a stocker and not something that was perfectly over restored.
